Jaani Dushman starts with a couple driving to the station.Their car broke down and they wait in a haveli(mansion).Thakur Jwalaprasad(Raza Murad)a ghost tells them he will kill every bride dressed in lal jora.(red bridal dress).Every time he sees his wife(who killed him) in a bride dressed in lal jora.For almost 20 years every bride in lal jora gets killed.Nobody knows who the killer is.
Thakur(Sanjeev Kumar) also does not know how these brides get killed.Amar(Jeetendra)tells him that his sister is killed behind a mandir.Then starts the search of the killer.Lakhan(Sunil Dutt)is a brave man and he vows to find the killer.His "enemy"Shera(Shatrughan Sinha)also agrees to find the killer.Every character suspects their "enemy".
Reshma(Reena Roy)is Lakhan’s "wife to be"and Shera wants to marry her too.
After a few fights and unsuccessful hunts everybody knows who the real killer is.I wont give out his name.
The movie is slow paced but good.The story is simple and interesting.
Cast Performance
Sanjeev Kumar
Sanjeev Kumar is good as Thakur.He is complete natural and I like his dialogue delivery.
Sunil Dutt
Sunil Dutt excels as Lakhan.He acts well and does well in the action scenes.He has the meatiest role and he does not disappoint
Shatrughan Sinha
Shatrughan Sinha is as good as Sunil Dutt.Shera has grey shades and I cant imagine somebody else in Shera’s role.
Reena Roy
Reena Roy gets the longest role of the ladies.She has nothing much to do.She has to run around trees, look pretty and scream.
Rekha
Rekha does not get any scope to perform.She leaves a mark in a small role.
Jeetendra
A great actor is wasted.He is Amar, friend of Lakhan and Neetu Singh’s lover.
Neet Singh
Neetu Singh has a small role as Gauri, Lakhan’s sister
Vinod Mehra
Vinod Mehra plays a mad person.He has also a small role and does well.
Special appearances done by:Aruna Irani, Sarika, Bindiya Goswami, Shakti Kapoor, Roopesh Kumar, Yogita Bali, Raza Murad, Jayshree T, Jagdeep Paintal and last but not least Amrish Puri.
Music
This movie has great songs like:Chalo re doli, Tere hathon mein, O meri jaan and Sare rishtey naate.Chalo re doli is still a big hit sung by Mohammed Rafi.
I think this movie is great but has a few flaws:
-The comedy track involving Jagdeep and Jaishree T is not funny at all.It looks forced and it lenghtens the duration of the movie.I think they could have removed a few comic scenes.
-Love triangle;after the unsuccesful hunts the love triangle between Sunill Dutt, Shatrughan and Reena starts.I dont think this was neccesary.After this triangle episode the hunt starts again.
I’ve also noticed there are few english dialogues in this movie.I think 3 or 4 sentences.I do understand Hindi and I love the dialogues.Not every dialogue needs english words.
No movie is perfect but this one is almost perfect.I’ve watched it many times.(I think 20 times)
You won’t regret watching this one.It’s much better than the "new jaani dushman"
