I generally do not buy books on a whim for having my own business to run, I dont have ample time left for indulging in reading a lot. So, I choose books only after getting some positive review. Though, I must admit that even after positive reviews and books becoming bestsellers many books that couldnt be read after a few pages have found their ways into my bookshelves. I agree with one reviewer in this column that these days very few good books are being published. But I must compliment Indias top two fiction publishers - Rupa and Srishti for showcasing new talent.
I like Chetan Bhagat, in spite of the criticisms. His writing is simple and there is good flowing the stories.Though the last three are not as interesting as Five Point, they are very good reads nevertheless.
I bought this book, Jab se... after reading some very positive reviews and this time I wasnt disappointed. May be I loved this story, because the main protagonist Atin starts his life selling goods like me. But, even then this novel has an unique flavor that I think every young person would like.
There is a good story and it is very very funny. I just couldnt help laughing it loud. There is some tragedy, and so beautiful is the conclusion over Atins father falling for another woman that my eyes moistened. There is some adventure and some sex - overall a very balanced story. At the same time there is a message and every young person should learn from Atin, Luv, Russel and Ujani how never to give up.
This is the most memorable book that I have ever read from an Indian author. The author is new, S.R.Saha by name and I have congratulated him through the e-mail address given in the book.He seems to be a nice person, for he had promptly acknowledged with a thank you. I am looking forward to his next book.
