The Curse of God! or Meera!!

Well, I still didn’t understand how Shahrukh can sing in the voice of Rabbi Shergill, and how come a Shahrukh of 25 years of age = a Shahrukh of 35 years of age, or how come suddenly getting selection in Army become so easy with such a fast promotion setup, but still I will say YES to this last movie from a great and legendary romantic movie director Yash Chopra.  The main reason behind this YES is that this movie doesn’t bore you, and it goes like you’re not watching a movie, but you’re on a foreign trip, and you’re seeing picturesque locations with your own eyes, and movie just flows smoothly though there are many technical/directorial glitches, but time just passed smoothly, and you’ll feel refreshed, and that’s what is the magic of this Yash Chopra Romance.

The movie starts when a live bomb was found, and in came the bomb expert Major Samar Anand (Shahrukh Khan), who is not only a bomb expert, but also he never wears the bomb disposal suit, because he never fears the death. And in few moments a daring and fataak girl enters into his life named (sh!)Akira Ray (Anushka Sharma) who is also an apprentice at Discovery channel, and she want to do big in her job so she started making a documentary on the life of Major Samar – The man who cannot die, and then we enters into his earlier life when he was just 25 yrs of age (though it didn’t looked like!). He was just an unemployed youth (!!) working for small jobs at different locations in London, and sings part-time in the voice of Rabbi, and then enters a beautiful lady named Meera (Katrina Kaif), and they both fell in love with each other. But Meera has a tie-up with god, if she gets anything she desires, she will give up one of her best thing.  And this cost him Samar, Samar leaves London and becomes an army-men to challenge his life against god. But life has given him one more chance to get together with his life Meera though Akira.

To begin with, I must say that beautiful locations are used wonderful shots in and outside India, wonderful Photography, and movie covers the essence of romance beautifully, you just lost in the locations and the characters. 2nd best thing happen to movie is that it is not boring, if you love romance, you’ll love this movie as well, as despite being a lengthy (3hrs) affair, you’ll enjoy every moment of it, and it looks like a poem. In the acting term, SRK acted like he do always, and I am not a fan of him, but he looks good as an army man, Anushka is good, and Katrina is okay, if you have a director like Yash Chopra behind you, you can expect good acting. I personally thought that just to make his last film memorable, he tried a bit too much, music by AR Rehman, Lyrics by Gulzar, singing by Rabbi, it’s a deadly combination though but how could Rabbi becomes the voice of SRK. Songs are just okay, not much great music this time from the music maestro Rehman. But you can obviously listen to soulful ‘Challa’, which was made listen-worthy by Rabbi’s voice. Then ‘Mujhe Saans aayi’ is a beautiful slow romantic song, sung nicely by Shreya Ghoshal and Mohit Chauhan. ‘Ishq Shava’ is an okay song, but can listen once. Background score was high-pitched, but linked nice with the scenes. But then there are many loopholes, and by no means has SRK fit the character of a 25yr old youth, he looks nice in the role of a father of big son/daughter. And how come so easily he becomes a well-established army-man, just like that. Story is not much great, looked like Veer-Zaara revisited, but I liked the thought of God’s curse (like it was a case of rings in ‘Jannat’). Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh was also there in the movie and looked good in the small roles. 1st half and 2nd-half were equally balanced, what I didn’t liked that much was the climax part, and I thought it would be better if SRK dies in the movie :) in the end, but that didn’t happened :(. Some scenes are really good, like when suddenly SRK’s character remembers who he is actually after a Bomb Scare in London, it just reached to the peak point of the movie. Some scenes, just out of mind, the scene of Anushka jumping into water, crying for help, is made so bad, one trained eye can easily find out it was computer graphics (that too done badly) not real, sometimes, something looks good when done in real.

I will say YES to this last movie from a great director Yash Chopra. Just go for having a romantic time pass with your partner and you’ll enjoy it, my take 3.5/5.
