Never I had hated a romantic movie to the extent that actually started loving it later on...
Already left the chance of seeing this in a multiplex expecting it to be yet another boring romantic flick from Bollywood stable! But saw it causally on TV and started liking it. Ttill now have seen it more than 25 times and still if it comes over - I never leave a chance to see it again.
Imtiaz Ali has made a near masterpiece of a cinema and by presenting Kareena Kapoor in very different and cute manner. He has set a new benchmark for romantic films and that the film can be made without over glamour or movie masala. Kareena as Geet is fantastic and no could have replaced her in the role. We have seen this greatly talented actress in many bold and glamorous roles and this one purely proves what more is she capable off! The plot and the character of the film was demanding and it asked for a very very energetic and full of life performance. Again, it should look/seem like crazy but not stupid. Kareena was the ultimate choice and she delivered a fantastic performance and there was no doubt why she was given the award for the best actress for this film!
The plot of the film is very simple but different. A simple girl (Kareena - Geet ) is off for her hometown-Bhatinda in a train. Alongside, a business tycoon - Aditya Kashayap (Shahid Kapoor) who is already dumped by life and thinks that he has no purpose to live, boards the train. Both are extreme characters. Geet is very very very talkative and full of energy, passion, zeal and full of life cartoon. She gets personal with everyone and try to solve their personal problems even though the other person never asks for! On the other hand our Aditya is very reserved, frustrated, and angry on life. As a rule - opposite attracts and some chemistry among these two was in the offing. Seeing Adi being very quiet and reserved, Geet thought he is in great pain and that she might help him. She continuously tries to speak to him just to know the problem. Getting bored by Geet’s never ending chit chatting he gets off the train just to stay aloof… Geet follows and they are on the platform at midnight! Its here where our story gets its original momentum. Geet wants Adi to leave her to her hometown - Bhatinda with her lost luggage. So on the course do they fall in love with each other? How two different personalities come closer and find a life within each other is all what we can see in this wonderful film.
There are some many lovely scenes which will surely make you laugh till the bottom of your stomach, there are also some which might make you cry and make you emotional too. The story is beautifully crafted wherein in the first part one uplifts the life of the other and in the later half the second one runs for help when the other is in need. Kareena and Shahid share a beautiful chemistry on screen and this was a sure blast. Kareena is famous for eating all her heroes and that anyone who stands in front of her - looses any attention. Even though she doesn’t do it intentionally, it’s her persona that carries the awe whenever she is at go…… But here Shahid has managed very very well to defend his role and be competent to take on Bebo from the front. There are some scenes where he has clearly overshadowed her and makes a statement that he too is in the film!
The music of the film is awesome and brilliant. It has rock, ghazal, Punjabi tadka, emotional and romantic numbers all in one. My favorite one is Aaoge jab tum sajna and Hum jo chalne lage, rest all are also very melodious and soothing to ear. Farahs choreography was spot on in Ye hawon mein... I later came to know that she did that song with the local dancers and that she gave them chocolates as sovergeins for the lovely dancing!
The only thing that I didn’t liked or thought it could have been better is the climax of the film. The last 30 minutes or 20 minutes were dragged unnecessarily or may be it could have been done or executed in way different than it was. It was good but could have been better for sure…… Otherwise the film rocks big time and I still watch it on DVD or anytime it comes over on TV.
The best things to relish:
Kareeena entering the train for the first time - Mein train mein aachoonki hoon, bhaisaab ab to mera haath chood do - too hilarious scene.
On the platform - when Geet missed the train.
Hotel Descent - Humein room ghatne ke hisab se chahiye - Very funny
Geet and Adi in the farm - Ab ye saala Manjet kaun hai?
The Climarx scene - Two love birds.........
If any of you have missed this one then I can request you to not to any further. This is fully entertaining and hilarious flick and your enjoyment is fully guaranteed!
Enjoy it!
