Jackie Brown
The Main Cast:
•Pam Grier as Jackie Brown
•Samuel L. Jackson as Ordell
& Robert De Niro, Michael Keaton
and Bridget Fonda
Directed By Quentin Tarantino (one of my favourite directors - reservoir dogs and from dusk till dawn and pulp fiction are my favourites of his)
I liked Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction but I never really liked the sound of Jackie Brown. It just sounded dull. Plus I didnt really like what Id heard from friends either. But my usual group and me, hadnt seen a film in ages so we thought we would give it a try. We went to our better local cinema for a midnight showing (adds effect being late)
Things didnt start to well when we had to sit through two videos by The All Saints. Yeah, yeah, they are fit but I didnt pay good money to see them sing. Didnt have any decent trailers either. Then the film began.
If theres one thing Tarantino can do its write dialogue. But unfortunately thats all this movie consists of for nearly three hours. The only high points there were, I couldve counted on the fingers of one hand.
The plot:
The films basic premise is that Jackie Brown (Pam Grier), is an air stewardess in her 40s is going to smuggle a large sum of money out of Mexico for her gangster friend Ordell. The big part of the story is that she is going to double cross several people so that she can keep the money for herself. Shes doing this because she was caught smuggling before by the ATF (American customs police or something). They offer her two choices, One, shes goes to prison for her crimes or she sets can set up Ordell so that the ATF can arrest him, because Hes been under suspicion for years, and now they want him.
And thats all there is to this film. It may have a big cast list but it helps the film in no way whatsoever.
Cast Performances
Pam Grier is very good as Jackie and is very watchable along with Jackson. Both are comfortable with this movie. In fact Jackson again has some very memorable lines in the film. Bridget Fonda plays Jacksons sort of girlfriend. But she only does a few things in the entire movie. She either smokes a bong, has sex or gets killed. and thats about it.
Robert D. Niro - big name, crap part. He was totally wasted in this movie. He honestly does bugger all. He really just plays a scruffy bum who sits down and listens to Jackson talk all of the time. Sorry about the shortness of this review but this film just didnt catch on with me. If I were you, wait for a television release.
