I have done both my UG and PG degrees from Jadavpur University.
I did my degree’s on English Literature. The faculty is really good and the semester system is so much better. The papers to choose from is varied and you do study and learn instead of the political stuff which goes on.
J.U. might seem troubled to others from the outside but the moment you start studying you will see things are different. Nobody forces you to come to rally’s or political meetings. And the atmosphere is amazing! it’s a melting pot for people coming fro different parts of India as well as different parts of the world.
If anyone is thinking doing his or her Under Graduate degree from some other University, please don’t, this is the best place to do it from, hands down.
And the university exam results come out faster than any other University and the whole course and even the rules are very student friendly. In some universities and colleges you will see if you fail in you’re optional pass subject for example, if you’re doing you’re honors in English and you’re pass paper is political science and you pass all your honors papers.
But you fail you’re optional pass paper, you will be promoted to the 2nd year and you will be given another chance to pass the exam the 2nd time while you give you’re 2nd year final exams or semester exam.and if you again fail in that exam, you will be given a 3rd and final chance.but this will not hold you’re promotion to 3rd year!.i’am sure no other university has this .but with semester system on, I don’t think these optional’s matter but i’am sure the rules havent changed!
