Beautiful!

Jamaica is the most beautiful island in the Caribbean. It is in the Spice Island chian. It reminds me of the Hawaiian Islands. It is also the most dangerous.

The first time I was here we took our children and stayed in Negril, (one of the tourist areas). We were told not to drive into Kingston, (the Capital City), but we did it any way. On our way back, there was a road block, when we stopped, our car was surrounded by teenagers.

They began to rock our car back and forth. My husband put his foot down, hard on the gas pedal, and went through the barrier. I don’t blame the people who did this because at that time they were so poor, they would do anything to get some money or valuables, so they could buy food.

This time our ship docked in Ocho Rios. We had pre-booked a tour of the island.

What We Saw On The Tour:

Bob Marley Jeep Tour picked us up on the dock. Our first stop was at the Bob Marley Mausoleum. He was the singer who introduced Reggae Music to the World.

We then drove to along a road to see the villages of Claremont, Higgin Town until we reached Nine Mile Village. The Village is on Saint Ann Mountain. We took a tour of the home of Bob Marley. Then we stood on Mount Zion Rock, where he use to meditate, before he wrote his songs.

On the way back we went thought the farming area, and saw the sugar cane groves, a Rum Factory and stopped at Muirhouse to visit the Brown’s Town Market. We bought some T-shirts here, some spices and a painting.

We went on to visit the Seville Great House and Heritage Park. We saw where the Tainos, (the first people to live on this island), had built a town. They were part of the Arawak Tribe who had live here over 1500 years ago. We saw replicas of their homes, artifacts, and learned about their history and culture.

Our last stop was at the Island Village, because it was near the place where our ship had docked. We walked along the broadwalk, and looked at the beaches on the lagoons. We had lunch at Jimmy Buffet, (we both had a delicious beef jerky sandwich), before we went to see what was in the Duty Free Shop. My Husband bought some golden Jamaican Rum, and I bought a huge bottle of Opium Perfume. Then we went back to the ship.

My Thoughts:

Jamaica didn’t seem any more dangerous than any other tourist destination. I’ve been here twice, and if you haven’t I do recommend you consider it if you are going to the Caribbean.
