Its a trying time to go to Jaslok Hospital, not so much for the patient as much for the attendant. Right from admission to final discharge, the process is extremely user un-friendly and is handled by people as if they are doing a big favour. The admission process takes anything from 30 mins to an hour. Some of their crazy systems - If you want an extra bedding for the attendant, there is a deposit of Rs. 100 that you need to pay. Then you are given a mattress and two sheets. No pillows (Policy does not allow it seems!). Another one - You are supposed to pay a deposit at the time of admission. But this is not adjusted at the time of final billing. You have to pay the amount in total and then come back after a week to take your deposit back. And if you loose a single piece of paper during the period, you can kiss the amount good-bye
.
Here is a beauty - If you want to have dinner at the hospital cafeteria (you have no choice, since outside food is not allowed) , your timing are up to 8.30 p.m. For that you have to buy coupons from the snack bar situated in the lobby. But the snack bar closes by 7.30 p.m! So if you have not bought your coupons by that time, sorry no food, considering that there are no eating places around the hospital.
After the doctor gives instructions for discharge of the patient, be prepared to wait for atleast two hours before you can finally move out. The final billing and settlement process will require you to visit three floors (one for getting the bill, second for making the payment and third for the discharge card) before you can check out. And yes making you run up and down for any medicine required (Please do it yourself or you will never get it on time). All in all by the time the patient comes back home, the attendant is quite sick!
