Kyunki Saans bhi kabhi bahut thi....kahani ghar ghar ki..kkusum...kausauti zindagi ki...the lists continues...but whats common in them?
The beautiful, caring, sushil, himmatwali bahu...with most of their husbands involved in extra-marital affairs, and they always in tears while they fight for the truth or good and deal with all sorts of family politics.
Well, I had thought, I would never get to see a sensible soap during prime time. Dhadkan had given me some hope...but it fizzled out..finally comes...Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin! To tell you the truth, when the promos appeared, and they were speaking about Jassi, I had assumed the same old typical character.
But Voila, when I saw the first episode (well out of curiosity), my mouth was half-open on seeing her...but it was a pleasant surprise. The character portrayed in this soap, with respect to Jassi, is refreshing! She is a typical middle-class girl, not great with looks (well here it is thoda-sa exaggerated), yet brilliant in her work, and loyal and dedicated in her work. Till now this soap, depicts, how this simple girl makes an impression on the entire fashionable staff (except some)..that brains do matter!
Its about a girl, who rises from the status of secretary to assistant to chairman. On her way to progress, she has had to overcome a number of hurdles, sneers and what not! But her calm, quick thinking and intelligence helped her to the top. In essence, it is the fight between the simplicity and glossiness...i.e. it shows the contrast between inner beauty and artificial beauty.
The characters other than Jassi-
Mr. Armaan Suri
He is the chairman...and he sticks to the status...sits in the chair..jesting with his friend...Mr. Raj and occasionally playing with a tennis ball..and most of the times thinking of how to save himself from his fiancé, Mallika, when she finds out about his latest saga of flirting! Sometimes, he does become serious and talks about work though!
Mr. Raj
He is a Marketing VP (however, never seems do be doing much work, from the marketing point of view). He is constantly flirting with girls in the company. He is a very close pal of Armaan and also helps him in all situations. He is a very sensible and has a good sense of humour. Armaan confides in him everything.
Others include, Mallika (Armaan’s fiancé), who is irritated by the importance given to Jassi by Armaan. She is an intelligent, typical high-class society woman. She has been childhood friend of Armaan’s and is very well versed with his playboy behavior. To keep an eye on him, she wanted her friend Pari, to be his secretary.
Pari is a dumb girl who only cares for flirting around and getting the right guy to pay her interminable bills. Aryan is the brother of Mallika who “seems” to care for his sister but loves the chair where Armaan sits (mujhe Armaan ki kursi chahiye!).
Jassi’s family consists of her simple, full of values and hardworking father, a god-faring and innocent mother and a very cool grandma. Nandu, is yet another humorous character who is “smart” and intelligent and a very close pal of Jassi.
The entire soap is very well balanced and very humorous because of the typical characters and the situations created. Yet in the everyday routines, one can see the glimpses of truth in everyone’s lives. However the best part in the entire soap is the “Gang’s” talks! Gang refers to the friends of Jassi at her office. They all are unique characters but adding to the spice of humour nevertheless. Just listen to their dialogues, and it’s a guarantee you will at least chuckle.
Jassi Jaisi koi Nahin is definitely a must-see! It’s a refreshing change from the current saga of soaps. It relates to majority of the middle class Indians, who fight a large number of obstacles to reach the top. Their joys, their sorrows, their hopes, all in all has been reflected through Jassi’s character and her family. The acting of the main characters is very good and the dialogues are very effective.
The cons are when you REALLY apply your brains with respect to how work is been carried out at Gulmohar, the office. A chairman does not know much of the business plan; he relies COMPLETELY on his secretary/ assistant. Most of the times, you can see the top-most guy in the company fiddling with a ball. He cannot understand a simple rule, that a sacrifice in quality will be advantageous only from the short-term point of view. Don’t know how he can become a chairman when most of the times, one would feel that its Jassi who runs the company!
But the realistic backdrop and hilarious comedy covers it all up…and if you wish to relax, then watch this soap, as Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin!
