First of all, I do not agree with the much hyped fact that Jassi is not bothered about her looks, she is and she has a complex too, and she is sad about it too; however she has been trained and brought up not to bother, not to make an issue of the whole thing and play on her strengths, that is, her brain and more than her brain her hard-work.
Like Purab (if you are following the serial, you know who he is) tells her when she says she distrusts him, someday, you will learn to trust yourself....jassi is convinced that Purab came into her life to use her because she considers herself unworthy of that kind of love, appreciation for work, yes, but love - no!
Are looks in a woman or in general over-hyped? Why must the fairy-tale princess always be pretty? Perhpaps that is why Shrek became so popular, love essentially cannot speak the language of looks, attraction can, but sustainability has got to do so much more with responses and understanding than the way we look.
Jassi the serial, interestingly has non conventional beauties who have been beautifully done up, it does not boast of natural beauties, no madhubalas and madhuris here, but women, who if they choose not to look good would look very ordinary. The pickup line here, it doesnt depend on what you are born with but what you make of yourself.
Yes the serial no doubt is prolonging, but it poses a very important question that in our impatience we do not wish to address at all....
Should jassi be turned into someone pretty or should the focus be towards changing the attitude of a society that is obsessed with temporary material things (nothing wrong with living a material life, but one cannot look for meaning in it!!!) [And thank god for the fact that Purab, who is rich and handsome and therefore socially the most powerful character in the series - falls in love with her as she is, and therefore with who she is rather than what she appears to be].
The real question is our comfort vis-a-vis ourselves, success is as it feels, not as it is defined and the same holds true for beauty.
