I feel that Jay Jay is made by someone who had some money and wanted to double it by making a movie and bank on its male star. The movie has a wafer thin unconvincing story line.
I personally feel that the title of a movie should be meaningful and atleast related to the move in some way. Here, the only connection between the movie and the title is the song Jay Jay. I thought the movie was half baked and released in a hurry. Slicker editing may have made the movie shorter, faster and probably more interesting.
The story is like this..
Hero meets heroine and instantly falls in love
The heroine comes up with a brilliant idea to decide whether they are really made for each other or not.
Idea: Heroine writes her name and address one side of Rs 100 bill and hero writes his name and address on the other side. They dont see each others name and address and the heroine gives the bill to a waiter. If the Rs. 100 note somehow finds its way back to the hero or heroine then they are made for each other otherwise they are not!
Rest of the 150 minutes is spent running around the Rs. 100 bill which finally finds its way back to the Hero. To make the movie run the duration, there are a few bad guys and the sister of the bad guys who does the part of second female lead, and a few dim witted comedians.
The movie shuttles between Chennai and Calcutta and the speed with which the characters travel between the two cities, I felt that none of the characters had anything useful to do in life. Also, this movie reminds me of Majnu(another love story starring Prashant).
The heroines were strictly average. They did what was required out of most actresses in popular tamil cinema (Cry, Smile, Cry, Look Beautiful, Cry, Do Dumb Things) [Girls! I also dont like the way actresses are treated in tamil movies so dont label me as a MCP! I am just reviewing this movie :)]
Having said all that, I would like to say that Jay Jay is a far better movie when compared to most of the movies released around it. Madhavan does a neat job as the hero. Though, I wonder why he sported an unshaven look all through the movie. I felt he ran away from some Kamal Haasan movie and walked into this set by mistake!
Songs were ok. A couple of good ones. A few interesting moments when ever the Rs. 100 bill makes an appearance. A decent timepass fare that can be watched with friends or family. Strictly for Madhavan fans or people who desperately want to watch a bearable movie. I would rate it at 2.5 *s
