PNCS JHANKAAR BEATS directed by debutante SUJOY GHOSH I feel is the best film made last year for the so called multiplex audiences and is indeed a treat for people who love light comedy flicks with great music.
I missed out on the film last year and just watched it recently on DVD and thoroughly enjoyed it.

STORY:
DEEP(Sanjay Suri) and RISHI(Rahul Bose) are two good friends working in an AD-AGENCY. They are ardent fans of the music of R.D.BURMAN, they refer to him as ‘BOSS’ and each year they take part in a musical contest called JHANKAAR BEATS where they have been losing for the last 2 years. But, they badly want to win it this time and they might have a better chance because they have a guitarist NEEL(Sayan Munshi). The film takes a look at this one year in their lives, and how they go about preparing for JHANKAAR BEATS and the events taking pace in their personal lives during this one year.
Deep is happily married to SHANTI(Juhi Chawla) who is expecting and his mother in law(Shashikala) arrives at his home to complicate matters further. Rishi is in the midst of a bitter divorce with his wife NIKKI(Rinkie Khanna). Neel loves PREETI(Riya Sen) but doesnt have the courage to tell her.

EXTRAS:
The film scores in many aspects. Performances are brilliant. Sanjay Suri, Rahul Bose, Juhi Chawla all have portrayed their parts brilliantly and the chemistry between Rahul Bose and Sanjay Suri is terrific.
Rinkie Khanna, Sayan Munshi and Riya Sen are average.
Even supporting cast, the likes of Archana pooran Singh, Vijendra Ghatke have done a decent job.
Music is another high point of the film and all the songs are good and well-picturised especially TU HI DIL HAI. Direction is brilliant and at no time you feel that this is a debutants effort. The comedy is the highlight of the film and there are situations rather than dialogues which make you laugh.
Some of these situations are:
DEEP and RISHI keep discussing whether in the film SHOLAY Basanti danced for her love for Veeru or not.
How RISHI discovers his 1942 Model AMBASSADOR littered each day with bird-shit.
DEEP is kept on a diet by his wife and how he always keeps eating outside. He always has a packet of wafers with him.
DEEP and RISHI keep bullying NEEL and how they help him to win over PREETI.
The NOSE-DIGGER who brings a contract to their ad-agency and their reluctance to shake hands with him.
DEEPS neighbour who describes why he does not need condoms and eventually how he only comes up with a slogan for their ad-campaign.

FINAL VERDICT:
If you haven’t seen the film yet rent the DVD or VCD today and watch it. You won’t be disappointed if you are looking for a good light comedy. Take my word for it.
