I first used Johnsons No More Tears Baby Shampoo over 30 years ago when my first child was born. I had been given it as an item in a baby shower gift of bath items. Now as a grandmother I still use it to wash my grandbabies hair.
Johnsons is a reliable product that works great on a babys fine hair, cleaning it without stripping the hair of its natural oils. Only a tiny amount is needed for an infants hair. The reason I consider this a must-have item is not only because the ingredients must be specifically formulated to clean fine baby hair but also because of its no tears attributes. From personal experience I know that if a toddler gets shampoo in their eyes and it stings then they will fuss about getting their hair shampooed in the future. So, using a shampoo that wont hurt a childs eyes is important not only for their comfort but also as a way to keep bath time and cleanliness fun.
My oldest daughter uses another product on my 15-month-old grandson because it can be used for washing a babys entire body, not just their hair. This is quite a convenience and while it works just as well as Johnsons shampoo, I still miss the pleasant, familiar smell of Johnsons.
Ive used Johnsons on my own, coarse, thick hair at times and it doesnt work as well on mine as other products because its designed for baby fine hair. However, it works in a pinch and certainly doesnt hurt. Ive even used it before on my poodle and, once again, it works in a pinch but not as well as a shampoo specifically made for dogs.
Therefore, my recommendation is to use Johnsons as it was intended--for that beautiful, and, oh so special, baby hair.
Its also reasonably priced--less expensive than many of the other baby shampoos but more expensive than the cheapest brands of shampoo. However, the cheapest ones dont work as well for babys hair so its worth it to buy a product thats specially formulated for the composition of baby hair.
