The first Jurassic Park film was great. Reasonable story line but amazing effects made it a film not to be missed. But they should have left it there. Just because a movie is a smash hit there is no need to make one follow up, let alone two!!!
Anyway this is the story.
Its been quite a few years since the incident on the Island, where Dr Grant and his mates just about managed to escape alive, and now he still excavates in desolate areas of the world looking for fossils alone.
Elli left him and she is now married with 2 children. Now they are just friends who discuss Dr Grants theories on raptors, the latest being that raptors were able to communicate with each other through an advanced set of vocal chords.
Anyway, during a dig a discovery is made that allows a cast to be made of the raptors vocal chords proving that they were in fact able to communicate in an advanced way. During this dig Dr. Grant and his assistant, Billy, meet Mr. Kirby, a wealthy import export dealer. Mr Kirby and his wife proposition Dr. Grant to give them an aerial tour of the Isla Sorna (the Island containing the Dinosaurs) for their anniversary. First he refuses them politely, but then he caves in after being promised a generous donation to his research dig. Would you go back a third time though, no matter what was being offered?!!! Especially when he reveals that he is still affected by his last encounter with the Dinosaurs.
The real story though that they are hiding is that the Kirbys son is missing on the island and they had no other way to find him since no government was willing to help them. So they dupe a paleontologist and hire three mercenaries to go with them and find their son.
And this is the movie. But the makers realise that people watch Jurassic Park for the dinosaurs, so thats what you get.
The film moves quickly and gives the audience every shot imaginable of the dinosaurs on the island. In some ways it brings the audience back to the same experience it was like when we first viewed the dinosaurs in the first movie. We experience the movie by way of the cast members. As they discover more new dinosaurs, so do we.
Every dinosaur they meet seems to want to eat them. especially the new spotlight dinosaur, Spinosaurus. Larger, more terrifying and ferocious than the T-Rex, the Spinosaurus is very terrifying, and spends much of the movie chasing after the cast.
The raptors are still around and nothing much as changed for them. My one complaint is that the movie tends to repeat what we already knew in the first: Raptors are clever hunters.
Basically Jurassic Park is the perfect film to escape from the stresses of the real world. No thought required, lots of excitement and action and of course the amazing special effects.
