Dino fest

There here once again being larger, faster, stronger, smarter, funnier to raise havoc, destruction and carnage to delight the shortest attention span.. the Hollywood Trilogy. The Dinos are back as JP3 slashed into theaters as off course the third installment of the popular franchise. It can be safe to say the this installment wasn’t really requirement but then again hollywood isn’t dictated by what happens in the Box office; of course not, its the quality the counts right. Who cares how much money it makes just as long as if gives us a something new and refreshing to partake and watch, hey wait a minute..

Don’t get me wrong not all sequels and trilogies degrade and lose what quality and purpose of the actually story, but practically all fall under successful or worthless. Surprisingly Jurassic Park 3 falls in right in the middle of this range where it’s not totally watering down the original idea and provides straight down and dirty action packed adventure chase throughout the island. Unfortunately an attempt is made to make this feature refreshing with new dino and some new characters but falls flat and provides nothing new is added to this installment but the straight action in definitely worth seeing on the big screen and is even better than some movie without sequels at all

OVERALL

Being realistic, this movie really wouldn’t have played out well if it weren’t for the casting of Sam Neill and new comer William H Macy. It really wouldn’t have been Jurassic Park with Dr.Alan Grant leading the way to discovery and safety. I was definitely entertained by all the action and this is the main reason to go see this, especially since it was in DLP.There was an interesting opportunity in the beginning to fully explore what else Ingen was up to but they just left that aspect hanging in the air. There really is no depth to this installment and they really should have taken a completely different route instead of going back to a familiar place and situations

PLOT

This is fairly simple and completely rushed and well as the rest of movie and it’s a quick fix to get the movie started. A wealthy couple’s son has ended up trapped on Isla Sorna with what is left of the Dinos. The couple calls on Dr Alan Grant to hire him to be a guide but their real intentions are to have him help rescue there son, they wave cash in his face and you get the idea. Basically there really is no story or progression and any kind of interaction with the characters is only to provide some minor comic relief and to give the audience a break from the action. The subject of the raptor’s intelligence and there ability to communicate with each surfaced in more detail but wasn’t this covered in the last two movies. If you going to wow us please give us something we don’t already know

GRAPHICS

Well for the most part ILM succeeded in making the dino very realistic in the way they moved and looked. They did a better job at creating more silimarities between the computer animated and animatronic beast than the previous installments with more texture details and more realistic movements. I can’t give the same praise for some of the establishing shots and compositing because some of it look like it was done by the third reject team at ILM. When we first see the shot of the dino running from the plane, they really don’t even match the background what so every and they looked so saturated in color that they didn’t look like they belonged on the ground. Maybe the budget’s to blame but if you not going to do it right then why even bother.

CONCLUSION

Seriously there really is no point to go off into detail review because it’s the third installment of Jurassic Park, you pretty much know what to expect from a bunch of blood thirsty dinos chasing after a bunch of people. It’s definety a great ride from beginning to end just watching the dino running around the screen causing havoc and there are several scenes that really work and shine on the island. The problem is that there’s nothing new that was brought in this installment for the series. That’s what separates it from a successful trilogies of the past; being able to contain the same premise but a new approach.

The Alien series is so successful because it started out in wide open deep space and grew smaller with each one until the setting of the movie was on a single ship but it still kept it’s original premise. I for one would have liked JP to have taken a different approach but then again who doesn’t want to see huge dinosaurs running across the screen causing havoc and destruction for 90 solid minutes of fun
