Kaabil – after a decent time, a decent thriller makes its way to the cinema screens this week. What starts off appearing to be a soppy love story between a blind boy(Hrithik Roshan) and his blind(literally) date(Yami Gupta) very quickly turns into something that shakes you up and sends you on a roller coaster of thrill and suspense
A slightly over the top story line, but a brilliant editing and a tight story keep the narrative in full flow. Hrithik and Yami are good in their performances. Subtle and yet evocative. The movie brings out one of Hrithiks best performances something seen last in his Lakshaya days. The two villains Rohit and Ronit Roy who also play brothers in the movie give you the creeps and a feeling of lathing and disgust last effectively delivered by Shakti Kapoor in his hey days. Brilliant acting throughout!
The other 4 characters played by Narendra Jha, Girish Kulkarni, Suresh Menon and Shail Chaudhary keep your attention to the screen ably and this is in a compliment to both, their acting ability as well as the direction under Sanjay Gupta(he of the Shootout at Wadala) fame
The music by Salim and Suleiman Merchant has a haunting Sufianna element to it and the title track stays with you long after the movie
All in a all a very finely made film
(P.S. Don’t be surprised if you see whatsapp messages on Life/ Corporate Lessons from Kaabil very soon…for this movie, if you are so inclined, at a certain level, also forces you to think!)
