This one sure will warm the cockles of ones heart. This family entertainer looks set to be a winner during the vacation season. It is a love story between loser Dev (SRK), and sophisticated Maya (Rani).
Dev is a frustrated footballer married to a highly ambitious magazine editor, Rhea (Preity Zinta). The second marriage is between Maya and Rishi (Abhishek Bachchan), who yearns for more excitement in their sex life.
The central love story of Dev and Maya blossoms quite nicely. After their first meeting together, Dev stumbles onto the street and is then knocked over by a car. The car accident brings him back to earth with a thud and causes him to examine the impact of this raw feeling that his encounter with Maya conjures.
kank is an emotional saga that doesn’t defy the norms, yet offers something refreshing — despite the hiccups and the exaggerated emotions that director Karan subjects us to. His story and screenplay score most of the time, but he lets you down at places where it matters most.
Like the crucial scene where SRK confess his love for Rani springs out of nowhere. It could have been written more sensitively and with more depth. The Amitabh track, is not always funny. But if you don’t go scouting for imperfections, KANK is an entertainer in its own right. Karan’s deft handling of all the relationships is noteworthy. All characters in the film are imperfectly flawed and that makes it so real.
The interaction between Rani and Abhishek is captured beautifully.Even the scenes between Rani and Abhishek denote poignancy — like Karan excels in that scene where Amitabh is about to die and Abhisheks outburst out side the hospital.
The high point of the film are its characterisations and its performances. Each and every artist has put in their heart in the roles. What does one say about SRK? He has proven his versatility once again with this film. Not only has he played the part convincingly but also endears himself to the audience. Agreed one is reminded of srk of yire but he has given Dev a completely different shade.
And Preity Zinta! No other Bollywood actress could have carried off this role. She is brilliant! If KHNH showed her as a performer then Rhea consolidates her position as an actress of substance! Her toned body, her outfits, hairdo and her body language fit the role to a T.Rani excels .Abhishek and Amitabh leave upto the expectations.
Cinematography goes with the theme of the movie and has a classy appeal. Dialogues deserve 10 out of 10. Editing could have been better in the second half. .
KANK would find appreciation amongst an audience that looks for real life being depicted on the silver screen. Strong performances by the lead characters and hammer strong dialogues would only help the cause further.
