The biggest hit of 2006 in both India and overseas

There are a number of reasons that make Kabhi Alvida Na Kehnaa winner. Trying something different is an excuse many directors have used for simply changing the ending or one quality of the film.

But KANK is a different film in its entirety and holds its promise on all accolades for great entertainment. Even the comedy is well spiced in the plt coutesy Sexy Saim aka Amitabh.

A great looking star cast and pleasing tunes also add some backbone to the product.

Flashed in the very opening reels of the movie with Maya (Rani Mukherjee) sitting in a park just moments before her marriage to Rishi (Abhishek Bachchan).

She is filled with doubt if she should tie the knot or not. It is then a stranger, Dev (Shah Rukh Khan), appears and gives her the advice on marriages while betraying expressions of doubt regarding his own marriage with Rhea (Preity Zinta).

In an interesting parallel, as Maya gets married, Dev meets a tragedy that changes the course of his life.

Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna is a great product overall. It’s script gives Karan Johar to break from his usual melodramatic cliches And KJ take full advantage of it . The direction of the movie is almost perfect, with glitches more easily overlooked including a slow second half.

He has given his characters in depth dimensions justifying their desires , actions adequately to support the going ons. And to support this, everything else in the film works. The film has a lot of these things to boost of and while Karan does deserve a lot of the credit, the other factors are just as important.

In the technical department, this is superior product, the needed gloss, style, is evidently there. The cinematography scores for most of the part with breath taking locales of NY.The music is also served up well. Combine that with decent choreography and the film continues to gain its marks in key areas.

SRK plays his part comfortably and convincingly. Rani enacts her part very well.

Surprisingly, Preity leaves quite an impact in this film with her new hot avatar.Ab SR does invoke a few laughs while playing his raucous character. Abhishek is plain average.

Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna would certainly prove an excellent entertainer and a film quite viable for the movie ticket. You´ve got excellent- well placed tunes, an extremely talented star cast, and an intriguing story. And if you have any doubts, just watch last week´s two releases. You´ll be running to the theatre in no time.

The film is the biggest hit of 2006 so far both in overseas and India and expected to make 100 crores within one week.
