Love can brake marriage

Wives and husbands be aware : There is nothing that can stand in the way of love even marriage. That’s the message that i have got after watching Karan Johar’s KANK (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna= Never Say Good Bye) . Let’s see what’s all about...

The story is already known by now, but I will explain it by using the Bush administration’s concept of Bad and Good guys.

Bad Guys:

The first one is DEV (Shahruk khan) a sarcastic and irritating person. He was a football player (a good one as you can guess) who lost a deal of 5 millions $ offered by a football club after a car accident. he’s jealous from the success of his wife and humiliated by her financial power used on the house. The second bad soul in the story is Maya ( The splendid Rani Mukerji) she’s sweet lovely but she’s in a desperate search of true love, she can’t get pregnant and she complains from the non supportive attitude of her husband and his childish style of life.

This two evil souls committed adultery and destroyed there marriages and the life of their partners.

Good Guys:

Here come the good guys: Riya (Preity Zenta) DEV’s wife, she’s a Magazine manager, ambitious, hard working and very beautiful. She loves her husband in spite of his aggressive attitude and she’s a good mother too (She buys Plastation and all: of course she’s a good mother). There’s also Maya’s husband: Richi (Abishek Bacchan) a dedicated husband and happy man who lives a happy life with parties and all.

These two are the victims of trust and love for there partners.

It’s a simple analysis, a too simple one to be right, i will say that’s a dump one. Yes, we all know that Bush is wrong when he devided world in two sides: the bad and the good. There’s not only black and white in life nor in human relationships. And that’s the originality of KANK, it deals with the complex subject of humans sentimental lives under the institution of marriage.

Let’s think about DEV: How can a man lives with the idea that his wife is "the man of the house"? (See the movie) how can he bears that he’s incapable to walk correctly after being a sort of "Rolindinho" before the accident ?. Then what about Maya: She is a part of an arranged marriage, she can’t feel love with her husband even if Richie is a perfect man and a perfect husband (And that is the weakness in the story: Richi is too good that we can’t understand in the movie why Maya is not happy).

There is a lot of sensations and feeling related in this story, every one of us can take a side with a caratere and you will always be not so sure about your decision because it’s hard to judge a person for his acts without understanding his reasons. Dev and Maya did a mistake but they suffers also for a long time (3 years-watch the movie-) there’s morale principals that we should respect like the institution of marriage and the gold rule "Do not be un faithful to your partner" but all rules falls when we are confused and guided by our hearts. In my opinion the movie is not encouraging adultery, but it pushs us (the wives and husbands- im not married yet-) to look for the keys of happiness in their lives to avoid any circumstances that can lead to major problem. To be a good listener to your partner and to respect his feelings is what I will try to do to keep my partner if I get one.

Let’s move on now to the performances:

Shahruk khan: is he always like this? Because after watching the movie, I was totally canvenssed that he is an irritating person an unhappy husband able to seduce a married woman. his acting is different from other movies and he will get some awards for his performance.

Rani Mukerji: she’s too beautiful to be real. Even if the story doesn’t give us real reasons to understand her attitude, Rani was able to gain compassion, she’s innocent and very touching in almost every scene.

Abishek Bachan: I’m a fan of Big B and i was always wondering: Who will be his successor? the answer is The "Junior B". He was just wonderful, he acts naturally and let the audience ask: What the hell is Maya doing with DEV if she has a husband like Richi?. The scene when Rani told him that she loves DEV must be teached in acting schools or something like that.

Preity Zenta: she was good, she gives a flawless acting and she gains my compassion too.

Amitab Bachan was wonderful as usual. What can I say he’s great. Kiron keir: I did not like her, I loved her in DEVDAS, but here she was terrible, I hate saying that but that’s what I felt.

The performances were good, I felt that I was watching a Hollywood movie. the quality of the sound, the image and the choreography were just breathtaking. Karan johar is a professional and so si his staff.

But as you can see, I did not give five stars to the movie, and that because it still a Hindi story.

Unfortunately, there’s always this illogical nonsense that almost every hindi movie has. kind of things that make you ask questions in every scene like:

  • Is NY too small that DEV and RANI don’t stop hitting in each other?

  • Is the medical stuff in NY hospitals too dump to inject Shahruk by mistake?

  • How can a bride be lonely in the day of her weeding?

-........ (See the movie and share with me your questions)

I see hindi movies since I was twelve, and to be sincere, I don’t mind watching this kind of illogical things. But in a movie that deals with a serious problem like this I will rather prefer a different approach and more respect to the intelligence of the audience. I can understand that in order to bring a story in to a movie there is some "Dramatic compromises" but not this kind of non sens.

OOOOOF.. I’m relived: this was my first review... I guess it was the beauty of KANK that finally pushs me to write my first review after a year of being a mouthshut member and im thankful to Karan Johar and his crew for that. So please watch the movie and don’t say "ALVIDA" to my review before rating it and putting some of your judgments .... Thanks.
