Dumb and dumber

Ah, my first review here, and my title would have certainly got your attention huh? You might be wondering as to why such a title. Well, this title has nothing to do with the film. Its to do with us, me you and all the rest who have been suckered by the swish Karan Johar. This film is a way of showing his love for his father he says. I say that all these staements are just to ensure that the audience is hoodwinked into watching the film atleast once. Dont you folks think, that all this thing about fathers taking pride in hiding emotions (this by Vimal Kalyan) is crap. Love is an emotion that shows, you cannot hide it. So here we have a tale that would never have happened if the father would have shown restraint. The end is more pathetic than most pals. Its hows the father breaking down, apologising for his misdeeds hahaha...what nonsense.

It had quite some bloopers as pointed out by suyog, the nokia communicator, the aati kya khandala scene. But bloopers apart, what pissed me off most, was the scene in GB, where Kaajol’s kid sings the national anthem, and what do you know, the brit kids too sing it. Man how pathetic can you get. You are blatantly insulting our national anthem. It is our national Anthem pal, not the Brits. And even if they are singing it, it doesnt mean they respect it huh? Love for the country comes from the heart my friends, not by showing cliched scenes. But then, if he doesnt show that scene, how will he have the overseas coffers filling?

He has done just one thing here. Kj has played his ace, indian emotion, playing on references that relationships are going down the drain etc etc, and hence his film is the much needed antidote to bridge the imaginary gap between parents and their kids.

A sugary syrupy film, that plays on your emotions to keep KJ’s money bank overflowing.

Performances, well..Amitabh was good, though I had this nauseating feeling that it was almost a repeat of Mohabattein and the parampara BS. But he did give a marv performance in the end. A scene where he did teach shshharurukh a thing or two about acting. Jaya, other than shedding tears, had not mush to do. She has performed quite well in the past...Khamoshi, Sholay, but I feel that she is wasted here. Kajol, is a talented actress, and she does her best in all films. Kareena, well the film did freshen up on her arrival, but no great performace here. Her outfits though were another story - they were very Indian, weren’t they? Then we have Hrithik, our own Dancing hero. He does dance very well, and performance wasnt bad either. But he did play 2nd fiddle here. Johnny Lever was wasted here.

Music, the sonia song, set to good music by shandilya is the only memorable number. The other song, leja leja, sounded quite familiar to Mehndi Laga ke rakhna.

A lot of you would ask, why I did see the film in the first place. Well, that was my mistake. But I promise you that was the last Johar film I’ll see.
