DON'T LISTEN TO OTHERS-- GO WATCH THIS MOVIE!!

Music: Jatin-Lalit, Sandesh Shandilya, Aadesh Srivastava

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Jaya Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor

I went to see this movie on its first day, second show, house full, of course. So were my expectations of the movie fulfilled, YES! Let me just say before I start my review-movie comes as a winner. I really couldn’t enjoy the movie because of the annoying guy behind me …kept on humming – Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham—he sounded awful! And kept on yelling!

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is a star-studded, emotional saga, and a family drama. As for the plot of the movie, I don’t want to ruin it for others, so I won’t tell.

PROS

Now what made the movie so good – Kajol all the way, her Punjabi style of talking, love for her country Bharat not India, and Kajol’s interface with the British lady whom she curses in Hindi, is funny and unexpected. Kareena’s comedy, even the comic scenes of young Hrithik Roshan and Kareena are extremely entertaining, the background score, Kareena’s introduction is a delight to watch. Kareena’s sexy clothes (Manish Malhotra) and ultra-modern look

CONS

The climax scene in the mall was just not that believable. Some questions are unanswered in the movie like why does Amitabh Bachan in the movie dislikes the poor. And, how in the world does Hrithik recognizes Kareena in London, when he last saw her is when they were kids.

Now the performance:

Amitabh Bachan: As usual has a grandeur presence, graduating, and even his dance in “Shava Shava”, and makes the audience cry with his last emotional seen with Shahrukh.

Jaya Bachan: She is the emotional part of the whole movie. She acted well as a wife and as a mother. She is excellent in the part where she confronts her husband (Amitabh) as just a Pati not Pati Parmeshvar.

Shah Rukh Khan: He is amazing. He makes the audience cry in emotional scenes and makes you laugh in comic scenes. Just a note: the younger Shah Rukh (4 yrs old) is played by his own son Aryan Khan.

Kajol: She should get a Filmfare Award for her performance. She is amazing as a loud Punjabi girl from Chandi Chowk, a heartbreaking daughter-in-law trying to get her father-in-law’s ashirwaad, and as a mother who is trying to raise a son in Pardes. She lights up the screen whenever she comes on.

Hrithik Roshan: He is hot, and acts well. His dances are a delight. His scenes with Shahrukh- some are funny and some draw tears.

Kareena Kapoor: She is funny, and oozes sex appeal. She lights up the screen. She has acted well as an ultra modern girl.

Others in the supporting cast have acted well, too, like- Farida Jalal is natural, Rani Mukherji acted well in the short appearance in the movie. Achla Sachdev only has couple of scenes but she acted well, especially in a Comedy scene between her and Sushma Seth is cute. A brilliant actress like Sashikala is completely wasted in a stupid role of a hard of hearing woman. Johnny Lever and Himani Shivpuri were funny.

Music is another plus points of the movie- songs like the title song, “Bole Choodiya”, “You are my Sonia”, “Vande Matram”, and “Suraj Hua Madham” are among the audience favorite. Again, Background score is very good.

I can’t wait until it comes out on DVD. Original release date of the DVD is on January 15, 2002.

Oh, one more thing, stop reading this review and go watch the movie!

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE TO Lizardking, Suyog, Achoo, or whoever who don’t like family kind movie.
