There are very few albums in the Indipop domain that can be called Collectors’ Items. Usually, one buys the album on impulse (usually triggered by the music video), listens to it off and on for a couple of months and then forgets all about it.
Well, Adnan Sami has managed to distance himself from the commonplace with this brilliant album, Kabhi Tho Nazar Milaao. Yes, this one definitely makes it to the Collectors’ Item category. It’s one of those rare Indipop albums that one can listen to back-to-back several times over. The music soothes, caresses, enlivens and excites. Some of the best songs on the album include Barsaat, Kabhi Tho Nazar Milaao, Yehi Tho Pyar Hai and Mehndi Ki Raat.
From a musical point of view, this album is a winner. Adnan’s compositions are haunting, well structured and beautifully arranged. The fact that Adnan has programmed the keyboards himself shows both his musical talent as well as his technical proficiency.
In terms of lyrics too, the songs are by and large well written. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give the lyrics a rating of 7. In the Indipop category, one doesn’t hear this calibre of lyrics these days.
