The story unfolds...Kahaani...
Vidya Balan has arrived..finally...No one killed jessica to dirty picture to Kahaani..one of the rarest of rare actress who can turn an otherwise mediocre movie into a rivetting and super-interesting one...
Kahaani is an ode to Kolkata and to Vidya Bagchi(or is it Balan??:))..oops Bida Baghchi...
Movie which starts with a zoomed in view of white mouse..!!disgusting it is..and then to kolkata metro rail...cut to 2 years post the first scene(wont delve into the details else it will dampen the thrill and mystery intended by the director)..Vidya Bagchi lands at Kolkata airport...software engineer from london in search of her husband..missing since last 2 months, who came for an assignment to kolkata..
Vidya, fondly and at times quiet irritatingly referred to as Bida by kolkatta inhabitants(Police inspector, receptionist, "hot running water" kid..etc etc)..alongwith a police inspector Rana(whose real name means "Arjun ka saarthi" ..a well thought after name given by the movie script writer) embarks upon the search of her missing husband..the tale with many missing pieces which gradually fits into each other perfectly and finally turn into an unexpected and praiseworthy climax..
Sujoy Ghosh has woven a nail biting and astounding thriller which not even for a split second comes across as much cliched or monotonous..right from the first scene till the last its a complete adventure story...attention has been paid to even the minutest details, like the kolkatta taxis, chai wallahs..the way ladies dress in kolkata..roads...the typical kolkata jargon..and yes the drastic difference in the attitude of police wallahs of kolkatta and the IB agent from Delhi is very well captured.
Thankfully not many songs(esp not any romantic song) in the movie..had there been any such songs, they would have simply turned down the mood and the pace the movie had..needless to mention the ekla chalo re voice over by Amitabh Bachan resulted in adding some additional feathers in the cap of Mr director..Perfect choice.
Vidya, as a lady in her third trimester, furiously and desperately searching for her husband..a lady who is 200% convinced that her husband is alive and is in kolkata, even after all the roads to her husband arnad lead to nowhere..vidya in the role of a wife in pursuit of her husband looks really believable...one can connect to her pain, her angst, her fears and her determination..Vidya Balan has proved that bollywood is for movies and acting, not for designer clothes and size zero figure..she has proven her mettle and the fact that she belongs to a completely different league..
Editing is perfect, star cast is perfect, story is perfect and acting is more than perfect..
Kahaani has all the essential elements to make it a perfect story and a unblemished movie.
4 stars for this story..oops KAHAANI:)
