Not Just Music - Art!

Like most other people, I too bought Kailasa for two reasons:

  1. I liked the sound of Allah Ke Bande

  2. I had heard Teri Deewani and seen the music video on television

I have never had a moment nor any opportunity to regret my decision! This is a very, very good album of a very high level of musical quality and artistry.

Of course, the gem in the album is undoubtedly Teri Deewani. It is incredible how beautifully Kher has sung this song. Believe me, it is a tough song to song. One needs range and a powerful voice, to say nothing of solid lung power to communicate the raw beauty of the song.

I have noticed some reviewers criticising the quality of music. Well, in a way they are right. This kind of music should have been accompanied only by a harmonium, violins and Indian percussion instruments like Tabla, Dholak, etc. But remember, Kher came into the limelight with Allah Ke Bande which was an acoustic guitar-based song. So his continuing with the same style of arrangement comes as no surprise. Moreover, he has used the guitar in a manner that underlines the raw energy of the https://lyrics.

Last, I would like to make a mention of the style in which Kher has sung Teri Deewani and most of the other songs on the album. A kind of casual carelessness that communicates the mood very well. Check out the way he sings: Ay mein rang rangeeli deewani. Ay mein albeli, mein mastani. it is almost as if he’s singing to himself. And so, the songs sound very personal, very private and showcase the artiste’s innate mastery in the best possible way.
