Dharma Productions.The name of this banner, excites so many viewers.First it gave Bollywood a superhit Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, then it gave Bollywood K3G!Two superhits.The man behind Dharma Production and these two successes was Karan Johar or should we call him TLFB (The Luckiest Filmmaker of Bollywood)!TLFB has made two films earlier in his life, which are mentioned above and surely this time also he will get success.
THE FILM:
Dharma Productions, ’’Kal Ho Naa Ho’’, produced by Karan Johar, directed by Nikhil Advani, stars Shahrukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan (Wow!Both Khans:), Preity Zinta, Jaya Bachchan, Satish Shah, Ketaki Dave and Sushma Seth.This is the MOST awaited film of Bollywood, because of several reasons:
1.Karan Johar is back again after two successful films, KKHH and K3G.
2.Shahrukh Khan has always been successful in Karan Johar`s films and he is back after the success of Chalte Chalte.
3.Preity Zinta has been a successful actress in this year, with starring in big budget films like ’’The Hero’’, or her recent super success ’’Koi Mil Gaya’’
4.There are lots of excitements that there are Kajol and Rani Mukherjee, in this film, like, every Karan Johar film.
So, everything is going in the way of this movie.
THE CHARACTERS AND PERFORMANCES:
1.Aman(Shahrukh Khan):Aman is a happy-go-lucky person, who believes that life is beautiful.He always remains cool, happy and friendly.He takes life very easily.Shahrukh Khan has to star in every Karan Johar film, and has to impress us, so here he is back, in this movie.Though in every film, Shahrukh Khan`s acting is the same, be it a serious film like ’’Hey Ram’’ or a romantic movie like ’’Chalte Chalte’, still, as the protagonist of the movie, he impresses you.In his emotional scenes, he is excellent.He makes you feel for the character.You can say, it`s a typical SRK film!So all the SRK fans get ready.
2.Naina Catherine(Preity Zinta):She is the PRETTY WOMAN.Naina is a very boring and dull person.Though she is young, but lives the life of a 50 year old woman.She has all the worries of her family`s financial problems.Preity Zinta, looks as beautiful as ever.Her glasses suit her very well.Also, as the narrator of the film, she amazes the viewer through her breathtaking performance.If there is someone, in the move to give Shahrukh Khan a tough competition, then it is her.
3.Rohit(Saif Ali Khan):Rohit, is another funny, pleasant character, who is the only friend of Naina Catherine, and YES!He is a big flirt.Saif Ali Khan has a role which gives an extension to the Sameer of ’’Dil Chahta Hai’’, nonetheless, he also gives a brilliant performance, like SRK and Preity Zinta.
Of the rest, Satish Shah, is his usual self as Saif`s father.Ketaki Dave(’’Ara ra ra ra’’), provides good support.Sushma Seth is alright.Jaya Bachchan, as Jennifer (Preity`s mom), is in a different role, and fits into the role very well.Now, Karan Johar loves giving surprise to his viewers, so don`t be disappointed.As surprise filmstars, we have Sonali Bendre, who does justice to her role, Sanjay Kapoor, who is good and hey, a Karan Johar film, seems so empty without Kajol and Rani Mukherjee, so we also have them in the movie for a second, as Karan Johar feels, their presence is a good luck for him.Uday Chopra is also there, for a second.
THE STORY:
Naina Catherine is a very boring and dull character, who has all the worries of her famil`s financial problems.Her father is dead, and she lives with her grandmother and mother, Jennifer, who owns an unsuccessful restaurant.Naina takes life very difficult, unlike Aman.Aman enters in Naina`s life, as her neighbour, and he wants her to change, and take life easily.This is not an easy task.He really annoys Naina.Aman feels that Naina and Rohit are made for each other but Naina falls in love with Aman.Aman can`t marry her, as he has a heart problem and ’’kya pata woh Kal Ho Naa Ho’’?Now Aman wants Rohit and Naina to marry each other.Will it happen so?
THE WORK OF THE CREW:
Nikhil Advani, is the luckiest debutante director.He got a chance to direct such a huge film.Well, he suceeds to make ths movie a fresh one.Where in the first half, there are moments of joy, on the other hand, in the second half, he will make you cry or feel emotional.He has done his work quite well!Some scenes will remind you of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, like the one where Naina tells Rohit, she loves Aman, Rohit acts cool and doesn`t let Naina know that he is hurt.The best thing about this film is that it is not melodramatic.The climax has been very wonderfully executed, without any melodrama.Karan Johar`s, script is not so exciting, but he provides a twist in the second half, which makes the movie gripping.There are also some homosexuality jokes, to provide laughter.The characters are well sketched.Though, there are too many characters in the movie, but the main three characters are not half baked.The sets are beautiful, and some of them, especially in the song ’’Mahive, remind you of those in K3G.Anil Mehta`s cinematography, is mindblowing.He has captured the lovely scenery of new York in the camera, exquisitely.Editing, is fine, but I felt that the second half was really dragged.Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy`s music is very good, and they are all picturised very well.’’Kal Ho Naa Ho’’, is pleasant to the ears.’’Mahive’’, is the pick of the lot, which comes at a very right place in the movie, and reminds you of ’’Shava Shava’’ and ’’Bole Chudiyan’’ of K3G.’’Its the time to disco’’, is entertaining.
ON THE WHOLE:
’’Kal Ho Naa Ho’’, has the entertainment value, and most importantly, the feeling of a Karan Johar film.It makes you laugh, it makes you cry, it makes you feel good.Though, it is a ’typical’ Hindi movie, but it is treated in a very modern and Hollywood’ish’ manner, so as to entertain the viewers and keep them away from melodrama.So, do I need to say-SEE IT!?
