I was surprise to see till the date 8th july’04 no one has written review on Kala Patthar. Hundreds of reviewers in MS seems to be passionate about films, so it was big surprise to find that I was first to write review about the master-piece.
Yash Chopra had directed and produced many films revolving around family drama, romantic films. But Kala Patthar is an exception, and that’s why this is only film in his carrer has given him international award of the silver screen.
Films deals with the problem face by the mine-workers, who work day and night in the mine putting there life in danger. Film focus on how their superiors make injustice by not providing proper medical facility, water and other important resources needed in day-today life.
With this social issue the film got good support of an outstanding screenplay of Salim-Javed and equally valued dialouges and high profile star-cast. *ing BIG B, Rakhee, Shatrughna Sinha, Neetu Singh, Shashi Kapoor, Parveen Babi.
Big B plays the role of an ex-captain who is dismissed from the job for not showing intrest in saving life of passengers when they were got struck in the furious storm, which cause the life of 1000 passengers. Big B escapes with his mates during this incident. His father gets angry with this incident and asked him to leave the house. Taking the burden of death of many people and their family curses, he decides to left the city. Which brigs him to this mine camp.
Shatrughna Sinha plays the role of ’Mangal’ who always spents his half of the year in the jail. Mangal is fearless, he tkaes the life as it comes to him. His entering in the mine-camp is quite intresting. From the very first day the clashes start between him and Big B.
Rakhee plays the role of doctor who takes the charge from Sanjeev Kumar. Sanjeev Kumar tells Rakhee that how difficult is to survive here and medical facility is not provided at time-to-time. But she takes it as challenge and says she will try her level best to change this whole system.Shashi Kapoor is an engineer. Neetu Singh plays the toy-seller.
Scence picturised on Big B and Shatrughna Sinha are high-light of the films, because both of them had never spoke word to each other in the film. The cigarette scence is worth to be watch again and again.
Dailouges for Shotgun are written suiting to his character.

Yash Chopra has kept perfect balance of highlighting the problems of worker and screening of the artists. A great work done by the editor. Flashback of Amitabh Bacchan, scence dircted on Big B and Sinha and outstanding climax gives good finshing touch to the film.
Yash Chopra took the big risk of casting big b and sinha together because at that time they had not so good relation. And thats why both have given high-class performance trying to show oneself best than the other.
