In my colleges summer vacations, we planned North-East trip wherein one of the destinations was Kalimpong. I still remember the way to Kalimpong from Gangtok was bit scary, narrow, curvy and rough road. However upon reaching Kalimpong, lush greens and picturesque was so soothing to eyes that it could make you relax in and out.
High end luxury hotels could not be seen there. We lived in small cottages with so much greenery all around, with traditional Assamese tea and eastern spiced food.
It is a very small, peaceful, safe and extremely calm place that you could even hear the wind blowing. Less populated. Not much attractions to visit to apart from the scenic beauty that makes it a good photography spot as well.
Must visit place if you appreciate nature and want to be free from the daily hustle bustle of our stressful lives for some days.
