Kamakhya temple situated atop the Nilachal hill in Guwahati city is considered as one of the oldestShaktipithas amongst the 51 present.
It is situated within Guwahati city itself in Maligaon area and can be easily accessed by autos buses and other taxis like Ola or Green cab or Prime cabs from all parts of Guwahati.
The shrine of Maa Kamakhya, this temple was built centuries ago and was rebuilt again by Koch and Ahom Kings later because of destruction by some rulers in late 15th century.
The temple is dedicated to the ten Mahavidyas: Kali, Tara, Sodashi, Bhuvaneshwari, Bhairavi, Chhinnamasta, Dhumavati, Bagalamukhi, Matangi and Kamala. Among these, Tripurasundari, Matangi and Kamala reside inside the main temple whereas the other seven reside in individual temples.
This temple has a noted mention in the history books and one of the most important time to visit here is during the Ambuvasi mela around last week of January.
Accommodation is not really good near Temple but elsewhere in the city a lot of good hotels are there.also there is a view point near the top with a great view of Guwahati city itself so dont miss that one.
