Kanakakkunnu Palace is a place of historical importance situtated in the heart of Trivandrum City.It was built during the rule of the Travancore(Trivandrum) King Sree Moolam Thirunal and later used by the Royal family to entertain their Guests.My house in Trivandrum is located very near to this magnificient tourist place.I have gone there many times to watch cultural program conducted in the open Nishagandhi Auditorium.Now the place belongs to the Government.
Opposite to this Palace is The Thiruvananthapuram Astronomical Observatory which stands on a hill about 300 ft from the sea level.The observatory had started its functioning in 1837 and is the oldest of this kind in the whole country.This was founded by King Swati Tirunal of Travancore who like astronomy very much.There is the emblem of the Royal family in all its rooms.SO if you go to watch Kanakakunnu Palace make it a point to visit the Observatory also.There are so many hotels within a short distance and also opposite and very near is the Napier’s museum which is very famous place of Tourist attraction.
