I have never been so unforgiving while writing a review for any product. But the last experience has left a sour taste in my mouth.
Ok .. Kareem’s which is located at one of the busiest corners of Carter Road boasts of hungry customers waitin outside for what they feel would be quite a filler. Thats the worst part of most of the brands in a few countries. First, they seduce you with the best service/delicious food you can find anywhere .. and once the product becomes a brand, all that is lost. They then tend to take their customers for granted.
Kareem’s at Carter road is quite a small restaurant with just 5 tables. On a weekend it attracts a lot of customers (not all I believe are connoisseurs). We planned to go there cos it was the only restaurant in that area which boasts of being an "authentic Mughlai" restaurant.
To begin with, it was crowded sowe were requested to wait for 5-10 mins. And yeah, we got a table in exactly the same time. The Venus Fly Trap syndrome :) We (4 of us, guys) ordered Chicken Lahori and roomali rotis. The Lahori, which was supposed to be spicy, turned out to be quite bland and the rotis weren’t hot .. but rubbery. The chicken pieces in the gravy didnt seem fresh n tender.
After that we ordered for a chicken biriyani. Now I dunno how people define biriyani .. but most of these so called "authentic Mughlai" restaurants serve the atrocious biriyani’s u’d hav never even dreamt of. Kareem’s is an epitome in this matter. A classic one. Once again .. purely bland with no traces of the authentic masala .. stone cold .. and with seemingly stale chicken pieces.
All through this episode we werent served water and when we ordered for thumsup, it came minus the glasses. When "asked" for glasses we were given ones which werent cleaned properly.
A sad experience in the end. Luckily we didnt order much initially even tho we were too hungry. Skip this place, i’d suggest. But again different people hav different experiences at the same place. I dunno if we werent lucky enough to enjoy the meal, but m sure that i’d never go back ever again.
