Nice Place But Horrible Resort (MTDC)

We stayed at the MTDC Resort. It is a wonder how we survived the place without getting into a fight with the staff! The resort is built over a huge area and to say that it is ill-maintained would be an under-statement. The staff have a massive attitude problem and behave like govt babus. I will simply list out my cribs: 1. the cottage was far far away from the reception/ restaurant and accessing it through the dirt and weeds was really difficult, 2. there is no room service, 3. although we had a suite meant for 3 where 1 of us could sleep in the bed in the living room, the reception curtly told us that one suite can have only one mosquito repellant machine; the fact that the place is full of mosquitoes was not their problem, 4. the restaurant waiters behave like they are doing a favour to you; there are very few items available and that too is served with attitude after a long delay and tastes horrible, 5. there is a permit room but they charged twice the MRP (which is illegal), 6. there is a nice river flowing adjacent to the resort but the approach route to it is a nightmare, 7. there are no eateries or shops nearby, the place is in the middle of nowhere, so if u need some food or medicines, then you are in trouble, 8. the intercom in our room was out of order and even though we stayed for 3 days (they take the full money in advance, so we were trapped!) and complained everyday, they didn’t do anything; as a result we had to trek to the reception/ restaurant each time we needed something, 9. we saw dead rats and disposed wastes lying scattered all over without being cleaned up, 10. they claimed that all rooms are full and booked 7 days in advance (as a result we couldn’t get a room for a friend even in advance) but we saw that most of the rooms were lying locked up; so there’s definitely something funny going on there. Overall we had a terrible experience and were left wondering whether MTDC officials are even aware what is going on in this place? A place with great potential is being destroyed by the rude and lazy staff. The place is an insult to the usual professionalism found in Maharashtra. My advice is, don’t stay at MTDC Resort. If you must visit Karla, stay in one of the private places like Neel resorts or Treasure island (both near MTDC) to have an enjoyable stay. Visit the Karla caves which is a lovely place, especially during the monsoons. Other tips: you can reach here by road either from Pune or Mumbai (it falls on the old Mumbai-Pune highway, just after Lonavala if you are coming from Mumbai). You can make a one-day trip to Khandala/ Lonavala and another day trip to Karla caves. If you have your own car, then great. Otherwise, autorickshaw charges you Rs. 400 for Khandala/ Lonavala trip (Indica charges Rs. 800) and Rs. 200 for Karla caves.
