Heard about this "bird sanctuary" from a colleague of my friend. And as the 3 long boring holidays(as many friends were njoing at homes) for diwali were staring blankly into our eyes, we thot of taking the "risk" ( as we already read the other reviews on this sanctuary) . Which we repented later.
Started off at 10 AM from our homes and reachd Panvel railway station by 12:00 noon. Took an auto from thr to the sanctuary(charged Rs150/- , which is ok considering the distance). Took the tickets from the booking office and started off.
As expected thr were more monkeys than birds. We were just going on thinking may be we will find a bird or two. But we were entirely wrong. Finally it dawned on us that thr is no point in expecting birds in the "Karnala bird sanctuary". And considering the time we started off, the sun was roaring on the top of our heads. Wished we started early morning.
On the way up, found some very common caged birds (peacock, peahen, parakeet etc., )
Sight seeing a bird sanctuary turned into a trekking activity. I never had any problem wid trekkers though I was never into it but this one made me feel that trekkers are masochists!!
The never ending steep narrow paths made my day horrible. Finally cursing ourselves we reached to the fort at 3:00PM. We were expecting a fort but found two big rocks and some cave kind of structures with water flowing in them. But enough cursing was already done so thot of having some fud and start off down way. But one thing is the view from top is too gud. And that is obvious from such a height.
Going down was little easier, that too as it was evening time. Reached the booking office by 5:30PM.
Finally, if trekking is the sole purpose and u hav never seen prakeet or peacock from close(which I think is rare), this ones for u. But keep it for early in the morning. And I feel its high time to rename the "Karnala bird sanctuary" to "Karnala trekking point"
