Have just returned from what could have been an idyllic weekend at kashid. agree with most of the reviews that kashid is pure, unadulterated, lush, sparsely populated and simply beautiful. but thats not why I am writing. having said so much, let me tell u that we went in a group of four and returned in a group of three. sadly, one of our friends drowned when we went to the beach. sounds unreal even when I write it but thats the bitter truth. were staying at sarve huts ( a really nice place) and went to the beach nearby in the evening. while the three of us were happy getting our feet wet and generally frolicking on the beach, a more enthusiastic friend (who is from goa and a fantastic swimmer) went into the sea to swim. I dont want to get into details but obviously he underestimated the strong current and the low tide that kashids sea experiences. by the time we got him onto the shore, it was too late. apparently this is the 20th death at that very spot this year! almost 200 people die every year. we had to take our friends body to the murud hospital and police station - yes, kashid is not at all equipped when it comes to help, emergency services, etc. the police told us that inspite of having warning boards in kashid and telling the visitors about the tide, tourists simply ignore these warnings and curse the police by saying were here to have fun, dont tell us what to do...and weve been to goa...and we can swim welll...
all I am saying is dont underestimate nature and overestimate ur talents. take care and steer clear of going in too deep. god bless my friends soul...and if anyone can benefit from this warning, so be it!
