If one decides to visit Kerala, God’s own country, then one should also take a chance to visit the backwaters. Alleppey has many backwater resorts known for its beautiful location and well maintained cottages. Kayaloram Lake Resort is one among them which boasts of having the most beautiful backwater resort in town. Truly the cottages are well laid out with green lawns all around and well maintained decors.
The doors are made of strong teak wood with beautiful attachments and the room too is very comfortable and very near the lake. The resort authorities give a lot of importance toward cleanliness and the staff are very cordial. But in all this fanfare there is a big hitch.
Each cottages are attached with an air conditioner and initially you would be thrilled with the idea of spending a wonderful time. Sadly you end getting up at 5 am as the authorities shut off the air conditioner at their own free will. The argument they give is that the resort is a natural resort and provision of air conditioner is provided on complimentary basis. Why then do they not mention the same in the brochure that is being circulated through most travel agents? Are we supposed to spend the whole day sitting in the hot sultry weather waiting for the authorities to again put on the air conditioner from 9 pm to 5 am?
In contrast, the charges are pretty exhorbitant with minimum of Rs.8000/- for a night in cottage and the other in house boat. On most occasions the house boat provided to you is without an air conditioner and the excuse given for non provision is lame. So, all in all though being beautifully located, the expenses incurred by you seem to go waste and you get out feeling cheated by the authorities concerned. So travellers, beware........
