I have been using Kent Grant+ (RO+UF+UV+ with Computer controlled Filter change alarm) for the last couple of years. Before buying I inquired few of my neighbors who purchased the product. Initial feedback was satisfactory from them. So I went ahead and gave the order. The things worked fine( except couple of minor issues) for two years. Last month it stopped working. I called the Kent customer care to register a complaint. But they provided me Bangalore area managers numbers and asked me to contact them. I called them and they promised to send the service person next day. Days and weeks passed and no one turned up. I kept of calling them, but things got delayed.
After three weeks( in between 1 week I was out of town, so did not follow up, but I never got any call from them), I called the second area managers number and he promised to sent the service person. After following up for couple of more days, the service person visited my house. He told me, the UV lamp has problem and it need to be replaced. It costs around Rs 350. Also the filter need to be changed which cost another 750. As per the service person (who delivered product told me) it was supposed to be changed after two years. As per him, the Computer controlled machine was supposed to indicate an alarm when it need to be changed. But it never raised any alarm. The cost of this compared to normal one( without Computer controlled filter alarm) was around Rs 1300 more. The service person told me, I should not wait for that, but should change every six months.
I had no other choice but to listen to him. More over it is two years and I need to change it. So I told him to replace it. He told me it will cost total around ( Rs 1500) including the service charge. The next day, he came with the spare parts and replaced it. But the machine did not start. He promised to come next day and came with another guy. They found the AC-DC adapter become faulty and that need to be replaced. It costs Rs 1100/- So total charge came to around 2900/- including Tax. Another thing which he mentioned is the RO membrane need to be changed since it is been two years, which costs around Rs 2400/ including tax. I told him, it is working as of now, I will change it later. They asked me to go for AMC which comes to 2500 per year, but the filter replacement is not covered in that. Which means we need to pay around Rs 4000 per year even if we go for AMC.
In the apartment where I stay, most of the people who bought this had problems, and stopped using it due to poor product quality and bad customer service. Most of them had multiple problem during the last couple of years. Spending Rs 4-5K for maintenance (almost Rs 4000 every two year, this is during initial years, God knows whether it will work after spending this huge amount) does not look to be a feasible option. I finally checked the manual and realized that most of the components inside it need to be replaced after 6 months - 2 years ( Filter - every six months, Rs-750, RO membrane- Rs 2500/- every two years and so on). Also in Bangalore we face severe water shortage and for each 1 liter the machine throws out 3-4 liter water as waste. Our apartment association also requested the owners to reduce the use of it to save water. Overall I felt this machine does not have required quality for the money paid. I would never suggest this product to anybody. Whoever want to buy this, be ready to spent huge maintenance cost after an year.
Pros:-
Purified water quality was satisfactory.
Cons:-
Huge maintenance cost.
Worst customer care (takes weeks to get a service guy).
3-4 liter of water wastage of every 1 litre water.
Poor machine quality. Most of the main parts need to be replaced every 1 -2 years which costs in thousands.
