Khakee- Story about Men in Uniform

I wanted to see Khakee for a long time. I had read it’s good reviews. Also I am an admirer of Raj Kumar Santoshi’s films after I saw his Ghayal, Andaz Apna Apna, Damini, Legends of Bhagat Singh. My last experience with Cinema Hall was quite bad ( I went to see Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon yuck !!!).

So this time I chose to see Khakee on DVD. I saw Khakee after 2-3 months of its release. By that time I had heard a lot of things about this movie like good script, very good acting by all, very good direction, very good editing and its’ unnecessary songs.

I will take up different sections of film and put my comments against each of them :

Story : After a long time I saw a picture which does not dwell on Saas-Bahu, husband-wife, friends , love etc relationships. It deals with people who are in police profession. Quite a novel idea but I heard that there are many more movies coming on this subject. I am just hoping that it doesn’t become stale like Bhagat Singh Stories. There have been many movies which has featured police character but none has gone in to such detail. Earlier movies on the subject has either shown their heroic or corrupt side. This movie differs from them by showing their work.

Cast : This is dream cast for any movie. In current scenario, most of them are sought after star. Except for Aishwarya Ray each and every member of the cast has been well utilised. After her introduction I was just hoping when she will get to show her histrionics in the story about Men in Uniform.Till the last she did not get the chance. Amitabh is superbly cast as a police officer who has been disliked by the department. After a long time he has played a cop who is realistic. Also he has underplayed the emotion in the scene where he is being hit by his subordinates. Kudos to casting director. Ajay Devgan is wasted in role of hitman or goonda. But he leaves an impact on the audience even with average / run of the mill role. Akshay Kumar and Tushar Kapoor are good enough to maintain the interest in the movie.JayaPrada was not required at all in the story. Atul Kulkarni is also wasted.

Songs : Even director of Santoshi’s stature is not able to come out with stereotype. As he has given hit item numbers in his earlier movies, he could not stop himself in inserting unnecessary item number. One or two songs are good but he should have saved them for musical or love stories. What I feel is that he should have given more opportunity to Aishwarya to perform. This film could do without songs.

Dialogues : This section belongs to Amitabh. See when he convinces an officer to support him. The dialogues are crisp. Akshay has got some witty lines to deliver.

Overall a good movie which can keep you interested till the end of the movie.

I will recommend this movie to all. This is movie in the league of Ardha Satya, DrohKaal.
