Like a typical Mumbaikar I love to spend my weekend far from crowd in the placid nature. Due to this I have been to many near by places like Lonavala, Igatpuri, Ganpatifule, Daman etc but Kihim is a class apart.
About 180 km from Mumbai this is a small town near Alibaug. I would recommend a ferry from Ferry-warf but if you suffer from seasickness than drive is also very pleasant. The other advantage of driving is that it also makes you more flexible.
Anyway I generally drive to Kihim, as a tip to avoid Mumbai traffic leave early in the morning. The cutting tea on the way is really nice and refreshing.
There are some very good options available to stay, MTDC tent resort is also highly recommended but my idea of holiday is little different. I generally go to a local travel agent and book a on the bungalow on the beach. Kihim has some very good huge bungalows, which are rented by the owners on the weekends.
Once at the beach, you will hardly find the crowd. The beach is not a developed tourist spot but has the rare wild beauty that engulfs you. All you would like to do is to get into the swimwear relax in water. Dont forget to carry a ball & net to play beach net ball game. If visiting during summers, then sunscreen lotion is a must. If you like to fish then you know what you should carry.
Evenings & nights are the party time. Have a bon-fire party either at the bungalow lawn or at the beach. Dont forget to carry you instruments & drinks. Dont worry if you have not arranged for the wood logs, you will find plenty of the dry palm leaves.
If you want more action or want to get close to history, you can drive to Murud Janjira.
By the end of the week-end you are all charged up with energy & feel very fresh.
