I passed out from K.J. Somaiya Institute of Engineering and I.T, Sion in June 2014. Well there are many colleges under Mumbai University but when I was allotted admission to this college I was excited to join the Somaiyian’s.
First year for me, was making new friends(alot of them), the teaching staff was friendly. There are many technical committees like IEEE, CSI, E-Cell etc, which you can choose and join, according to your interest for working with them and not what others say. Usually first year starts late in August and with semester exam poping in Nov/Dec, newbees have no choice but to concentrate.
The threat of KT always prevails throughout the semester. Apart from that the college conducts technical festival “Renaissance”- a talent hub to showcase your technical skills, robotics and many technical games that test your mind. Its always fun to be a part of the organizing team but due to time and management constraints, first year and final year cannot help. Come to February, you will have cultural and sports festival “ Surge”, so pull in your socks and get ready for some track and field action. I have always loved Surge because of the outdoor events it conducts.
The canteen is not that good with our popular “Anna” making money instead of food. Since the college is isolated from Eastern Express Highway, you don’t really find food items in vicinity. The canteen staff gives stale, expensive, cold food. Inspite of regular complaints to committees concerned, it never was of any help. The office staff are all formal, respectful people ready to help.
Second and Third year is well settled- taking part of organising committees and events, internal competitions, presentations, courses to literally take over the college.
Never to mention the popular “London Bridge “ near Chunabhatti Station, a death path I must say having killed some of my friends while crossing tracks. I recommend not to take the way out of college to Sion station through this path. Longer route is tiresome but safe.
Final year starts with responsibility and placements. Our TPO, all brings the best I.T. companies like Accenture, Infosys, CSC, TechM, Directi, Zarca Interactive etc.
Overall this college will give you a learning and realistic environment.
