Reading all these reviews one would get the impression that KLM is actually a good airline. My recent experience with the airline proved otherwise. I flew from Chicago to New Delhi via Amsterdam and back on KLM and found them to be the worst airline I have used thus far. From the very begining of the journey I didnt expect much from the airline. In Chicago, India bound passengers were told to stand in a seperate line to check-in, and KLM staff opened that line almost half an hour after they opened all the other lines. India-bound passengers had to stand in line for about 1-1.5 hours before they could check-in. The planes were old and broken down B747s (my lunch tray didnt even close properly) and the seats were painfully cramped. Unlike most other european/middle eastern/south east asian airlines, the in economy had no personal TV screens. Instead there were a few TV monitors scattered throughout the cabin. The monitor closest to my seat didnt even work on the Amsterdam-Delhi flight, but then there only so many times one can endure seeing Legally Blond followed by Pyar Ishq Mohabbat. When it came to meal time, I found that the food was unfit for consumption, some tasteless Indian veg. meal that I wouldnt feed to an animal. On the return trip, I arrived in Chicago 28 hours late due to numerous delays, and while hotel rooms were provided, KLM was very cheap with meals. To their credit though, their flight attendants were very nice. I have flown on Air France, Delta, Swissair, and Lufthansa on the USA-India sector, and I have never been so disapointed with the service I received.
