Previously known as Calcutta, this city was set up by the East India Company & Britishers mainly. While the city’s name has always been pronounced in Bengali, the anglicized form Calcutta was the official name until 2001, when it was changed to Kolkata in order to match Bengali pronunciation. Growing up in a city like Kolkata will always be bliss to me. This city has everything!
Its cultural activities, rituals, socialism & politics makes it popular among all citizens. It is also known as the India’s intellectual & cultural capital. Presently, Kolkata is the capital of West Bengal & the 2nd largest city in India after Mumbai. It is also known as the Metro city because of the Metro. Kolkata Metro was the first metro railways in India and fifth such rail in Asia.
The center of attraction of this city are Durga puja, Football, Eden Gardens, Victoria Memorial, Birla Planetarium, South city mall and so on. It has also the biggest & oldest library in India, National Library! The really old Zoo, Fish Aquarium, Salt Lake Stadium are major attractions of visitors from outside.
