The Sunday Syndrome

DISCLAIMER Topic written under the city Calcutta because it happened in the city Calcutta and not because it is meant to show a wrong picture of this great city

Dont why I have written this review ..

Maybe its because of this ..

Location : Calcutta

Date        : 19th March, 06 (Sunday)

Time        : 2.35 p.m.

my grandma was suffering from a certain medical problem I didn’t know of.. I was only told that she was ill.. on sunday her granddaughter rushed to my room where mom was chattin with my aunts...

she said that grandma had breathing problems.. we called up the doctor.. his wife said that he couldnt come as it was a Sunday and he was sleeping.. we called up another.. he was unavailable since it was a Sunday, our family doctor said that he could’nt come since his driver was not available.. as if there are on godamn taxis in the city, next up was the Hutch ’Helpline’ for Ambulances.. The said that no ambulances were available at the moment.. The Calcutta helpline for Ambulances took 10 minutes to give us a number of a hospital where ambulances could be available.. on calling the hospital the were no PRO’s available..

from a private source we later got a hospital which offered ambulance services .. next day grandma bid farewell to life

The point I want to raise here is why we, who so proudly call ourselves humans, are nothing but mere merceniaries..

Are the Doctors, Lawyers and et all.. working only for the sake of Money..

Why cant certain doctors treat patients on a Sunday? Is rest more important than someone else’s life..

Sometimes you feel so helpless in cities that you wonder that is all this glitterati associated with cities all for namesake .. Hospitals not offering ambulance servicies, doctors not attending urgent cases on a Sunday,

All the pubs, discos, and bars are open till the wee hours of the night whereas hospitals, government houses, banks are all closed on Sundays..

I agree with the fact that people need their share of enjoyment in life, but cant these so-called essential places function atleast for minimal hours with weekend employees..

Why dont hospitals become almost defunct on Sundays ?It may not be relevant in your thinking but wait till you face it.. this Sunday Syndrome is everywhere.. Sundays ~ the day off makes the city defunct..

So what should we do to help the cause ;

Number One All hospitals should offer ambulance facilities on Sundays.. The chalta hain attitude on Sundays has to break.. Doctors have to take up emergencies on Sundays too..

Number Two The helplines have to improve... These so called help lines are just there for the sake of being there.. most of the times they are engaged... and when you really need them .. god help you..

Number Three The hospitals have to improve.. last year there was so much written about the poor medical services of calcutta.. There were 4 patients who lost their life because a nurse had put the wrong saline in his body..

Number Four Get rid off the Sunday Syndrome in Public Services or make alternative arrangements..

I duly apologize for making this review sound as an outcome of the wrath of losing a near and dear one .. but I seriously , seriously wanted to raise this topic
