The year 1757, the Battle of Plassey, Robert Clive of the East India Company defeated Siraj-u-Doullah and won 24 parganas of Bengal. Thus, the Calcutta earlier known as Kolkata became the capital of British India.
The year 1868, Mr. C. Das of Calcutta District invented a sweet and named it ROSSOGOLA. The humble man didnt patent his sweet instead of that he thought public at large how to make ROSSOGOLAs. The taste of sweet was so great that even Governor Generals of British India too werent able to control their greed for ROSSOGOLAs. They called ROSSOGOLAs White Sponge Balls.
The year 2001, the leftist government of West Bengal gave Calcutta its original name Kolkata. Even today many Englishmen arent able to control their love for ROSSOGOLAs. Whenever they visit Kolkata, they carry with them White Sponge Balls to England in traditional way. Carrying ROSSOGOLAs in small black pots (popularly known as handis by people of Central India) is the traditional way to carry it.
As its impossible to cover whole of the Calcutta in one review, more about it in my other reviews, do read my reviews and wherever you find to criticise me do it.
