Movie Review of “Krish” 1/2
“Krrish” is India’sanswer to Superman & Batman rolled into one! He is Rohit’s son who has allthe powers that came courtesy “Jaadu” in “Koi Mil Gaya”.
The story starts with a familiar scene where a child isgiving an I.Q. test – like Rohit in the earlier movie – except this time aroundthe test confirms his superior intelligence. Rekha as the grandmother isparanoid about Krishna and takes him away fromcivilization & school and goes to live in a remote village. There too thekids refuse to play with him because of his super powers – so he ultimatelybefriends animals & birds.
Then one day Priyanka comes to the jungle as part of anadventure trip & predictably – he saves her from certain death. He falls inlove with her though that is not reciprocated. However she does get to seeglimpses of his super powers. On reaching back to Singapore Priyanka &Manini De find that they have been fired by the TV channel they worked at foroverstaying their leave. In a bid to save their jobs they tell their boss thatthey will get a genuine Indian super hero to Singapore. Priyanka calls upHrithik on the pretence of pining for him and he agrees to come to Singapore tomarry her.
Rekha on hearing this gets very upset and refuses to let himgo. When he asks why, we learn that Rohit – his dad – had gone to the US for 2 yearsto join an American Technology company where his talents were misused and hegot killed. After a little bit of tear jerking and a promise to his grandmathat he will never reveal his superpowers to anybody he goes to Singapore. There the TV channel tries all sorts of things to make him display his prowessbut he sticks to his promise.
One day while he & Priyanka are at the circus – the topcatches fire & there are children trapped inside. He solves the dilemma bydonning a mask & saving all the children. “Krrish” is born. A little laterhe discovers that Rohit is still alive and being held in coma by NaseeruddinShah and the movie culminates in a breathtaking climax.
The photography in the movie is superb. Technically this hasto rank among the best Indian movies. The special effects are a treat to watchand are done very realistically. The music is good. What raises the movieseveral notches above the ordinary is Hrithik’s performance. The guy is superb.Whether as Krishna, Krrish or Rohit in adelightful cameo – he is at complete ease. Of course – and I have no qualms insaying that I am an unabashed fan of his dancing – in the song sequences he hasoutdone himself once again. The other two honorable mentions in the film arepeople who don’t really need to be singled out – their body of work speaks foritself – Naseer & Rekha. Rekha as the grandmother is simply brilliant &Naseer as the megalomaniac villain is as only he can be. The only other majorrole is that of Priyanka Chopra who has done an ok job.
Music is very good – almost all the songs are hummable
The other artists are competent. Over all a very welldirected & executed movie – but tell you what – it does not have the“jaadoo” of Koi Mil Gaya!
