You are in B’lore and are in the mood for some authentic Konkani cuisine then I have just the place for you – Kubay. Situated in 6th block Koramangala, Kubay is known for its Goan and Mangalorian delicacies.
Not a very large restaurant, Kubay can seat around 30 – 35 people at a time. The exterior of the restaurant is not very impressive and the interiors are also simply furnished with attractive terracotta items displayed on the walls. The bright yellow walls and the clay-tiled floor give the restaurant a cheerful ambience.
Each day, Kubay offers its customers a few special items other than the ones available in the regular menu. Specials are usually seafood like jumbo prawns or king crabs. Seafood is the main item on offer here although they also serve other chicken, pork and vegetarian dishes.
The menu offers an extensive choice of seafood like Prawns Sukka, Shrimp Butter Garlic, Pomfret fry, Cheese & pepper Crab, Mangalore Fish curry amongst others. The prices of some of the seafood items vary depending on seasonal rates and size of the catch. The gravies are made available with or without coconut.
Other non-vegetarian delights include Pork vindaloo, Goan sausage in thick gravy, Roasted pork, Chicken Shacuti, Mangalorian Chicken which may be savored with rice, panpoles, sannas or iddiappams.
Vegetarians need not be disappointed because Kubay also has a few veg delicacies to offer like Mushroom sukka, Vegetable stew, Mirsang Alu Jeera, and Bhendi Masala which go very well with veg Pulao. Jackfruit papad which is a seasonal speciality is a delight to have. However, the choices are not as extensive as the non-veg items and I would not rate it as the Vegetarian’s haven!
Kubay also offers delicious and wholesome meals for lunch and dinner from Tuesdays to Fridays. You can take your pick from Fish, Chicken, Pork or Veg meals. They also serve Kiddies special meals with smaller servings. The meals are a real value for money and are very popular with office-goers.
Calorie watchers can also have a filling meal without feeling guilty with the option of steamed and grilled seafood. These dishes are absolutely non-spicy with minimum oil but take a little time to be served since they are prepared fresh on order.
There is also a small beverage section where you have the options of fresh lime water/soda, Cocum juice, Butter milk or regular soft drinks. The desert section is also minimal with either caramel custard or cheesecake as options. Icecreams, milkshakes and alcoholic drinks do not find a place on their menu.
The service is usually prompt, servings decent (not very large) and prices reasonable. The place is usually crowded during lunch hours on weekdays. Parking is also not readily available during weekends since this restaurant doesn’t have its own parking lot.
So, should you go there?? Yes, for an enjoyable working day lunch, if you are too tired to cook dinner or simply want a delicious meal. And if you are too lazy to go out but still want a good meal, Kubay also offers free home delivery within Koramangala. A satisfying meal for two shouldn’t cost more than Rs. 250.
Bon appetit !!
