Being a North Indian and mostly home food loving person I am no expert on Chennai Eateries. But I have visited Kumarakom on MGR Salai(Kodambakkam High Road) next to Archana Hotel several times. The other branch is at walking distance near Parsn Complex. Both are near to my work place hence frequently visited by me.
Ambience: The ambience is ordinary. They have an AC section and that is dimly lit. Music will be light. Since there is not much price difference I recommend go for AC section. Hygiene is okay.
Staff: Staff are quite courteous and attentive. Not fussy about tip.
Menu: They offer all the variety of Kerala food. This is not the place for veg food. However they have veg items also on the menu. My special recommendation is to go for Paratha(quite good) along with non veg food of your choice. Chicken and items are quite good. Chicken lollypop as a side dish is highly recommended.
They use coconut oil and it tasted okay to my north Indian Palette even though I am used to Punjabi food.
Rate: Rate is quite reasonable at you can still have a good meal for two in 300 to 350. Given the good taste and central location it is really a great plus.
Downside: The biggest downside is that there is no Parking place at all. Only some two wheelers can be parked some how.
The other branch: The other branch near Parsn Complex has same food but priced more and you have a Keralite singing Hindi Melodies(he is good at that). Here you can some how park your car if you are lucky.
