I had heard much about the Kungfu Panda series but didn’t pay much attention to it as it seemed like an over-hyped franchise. However withe the release of Kungfu Panda 3 I did take the time to watch it. Here are my impressions of this movie. First the good points. The animation quality in this movie is excellent with vibrant colors and characters that move very fluidly. The voice acting is also top quality and the performance itself of the voice actors is commendable. Now onto the bad points. I just couldn’t stand the dry and super obvious jokes that were not funny in the least. The jokes in this movie is something we have all heard and seen a million times in similar movies before this one. Especially annoying is the fact that these jokes are repeated every few seconds which is really annoying. The story too is quite weak and features a villain who steals the chi of enlightened masters to gain power. It is of course up to our panda hero and his friends to stop him. Needless to say the story won’t be winning any awards. It’s not a completely terrible movie but it’s not a good movie either because similar stories have been done to death before so unless you are a die-hard Kungfu Panda fan or want to show this movie to kids I cannot recommend this movie as a rewarding pastime to anyone.
