Can watch once (~3/5)

Going for paid previews has kind of become a habit for me – I am not saying I walk in for every other movie, but some selective ones.

Yes I do, so paying 300 Rs for this movie made me think twice – is it going to be worth it or should I just wait for the pirated dvd’s to come into the market and pay just 50 Rs for watching it at the comfort of my home. Only if bollywood filmmakers made more sensible movies then

I guess people won’t mind spending that extra buck to have a better sound and picture quality by watching it in a multiplex..

Back to the Movie Kurbaan – the movie starts with misty delhi morning with Avantika ( kareena) waiting to catch a cab ( taxi) …. To be honest, I am not a big fan of this girl but she looks absolutely stunning in the attire she has in this movie – I just could not take my eyes of her for the charm she carried. Absolutely gorgeous!!!

The first 20 min’s of the movie is slow – well they are building up the background of the plot, so understood – Kareena takes all the attention. If there are any saif fans reading this – I am sorry to the say that he looks old and jaded in front of her. But on the acting front – he just proves the caliber he has and how versatile a actor he is.

The plot pick’s up once the couple (yes they get married in the first 20 mins) move to NYC. They move into a indo, pak, Afghani neighborhood, and this is when the movie starts taking a hold of you – Terrorism, and Islam as a religion being in the fore front of it.  To be honest – the director (Rensil) had a very sensitive topic for this movie but fails to deliver a knockout punch. He just does not built the intensity as the movie progresses and pick’s the most commonly known issue of “oil war” and the attack on I-raq n Afghanistan as the main theme of this movie and the terror plots.

There are so many other issues which the Islamic society faces and are reasons for their retaliation which sooner or later gets termed as “Jihad”, but sad no one underlines them to communicate to the audience through this medium. Movies are not just entertainment all the time – Movie makers need to use this medium to communicate the right message to the people and also mention the power games which nations play that result in the killing of innocent people every where.

The best scene according to me in the movie is in the classroom when vivek (who I think has done a amazing job) shares his mind on what terrorism is and who is doing what.

The final dialogues said at the end of this discussion by vivek in the classroom – just makes you think – what if that actually happens – would this world be a better place to live?

The movie has a much predicted ending, but – overall I would rate it 3/5.

Saif is good, kareena is fabulous in her role, Vivek – welcome back dude!. Kiron Kher – could have skipped this role, but she did well . Om puri – absolutely a waste for the role he played – Collin (the FBI agent -  he just didn’t know what the hell he was doing – overacting is the word.

Overall – I would say – watch it to see, Kareena, Vivak, and Saif at his versatile best,  the hot bold love making scene ( I think this goes with the plot), and to know  what’s been missed out on ( as for your knowledge current affairs and terrorism). Have fun J
