I have heard many dreadful stories about the K serials , but I personally got to undergo the trauma of it recently !For past one and a half weeks , there a lot of relatives, chachis, moushis , cousins who have flocked to my place and some of them are full-time hardcore soap freaks, so much so that many a times they have tough time to choose among the serials parallely running on Star, Zee, Sony etc and they seem to have mastered the technique of multitasking ! Beleive me they really have one heck of a memory to switch the context so fastly , as for me I am still confused by the charecters , the story , as all of them seem more or less similar and quite familiar!It is nearly 10 days since I have even touched my TV remote and I am sure it is subjected to one hell of a torture and all of its functionality is utilised to its fullest!
Okay without degressing too much, of all the serials I got a glimpse of, this serial ’’Kutumb’’ seems to have the most straighforward simple storyline. The broad outline of this serial as I inferred in last 2 weeks runs something like this:
The whole serial is stretched around the lead pair called Pratam and Gauri , damn it , can they find any colouful name ? (Sorry , no offfense to all Gowris out there , it is just that it doesnt suit to the role here ) .Thank God that they didnt name Pratam as Ganesh!Anyway whats in a name! This is a college story with the lead pair indulged in pulling out pranks on each other and more less like a case of ’’When love and hate collide’’.The serial and the fans of this soap never seems to get enough of this childish pranks , as for last two weeks I see that the story never moves but is just a series of spoofs , immature squabbling , name calling and mud slinging! Anyway , Pratam is potrayed as the rich spoilt casinova(in my moushi’s words ’’ek badmash ladka’’), and forcefully thoughts stuffed to make you beleive him to be a guy with wicked sense of humour and on the other hand , Gowri is the fairy goddess or to put it correctly in my view a lady suffering seriously from some kind of a complex (you know those mahila mukthi morcha kinds), as she has no other job but to witch hunt the poor chap and paint him as a a womaniser. I dont know the background as to why she is so fatally obsessed with him , but whatever is the case the whole episode is handled in the most childish, immature manner and this serial is full of false melodramatic emotions , and looks more or less like a stage drama. One thing that amuses me is the perfect 10 makeup of household ladies all the time , come day or midnight , they all seem to be dressed up for some big occsison! Also the ending of this serial seems quite predictable, which makes it even more boring!
I wonder how people can really be hooked to soaps like these , as it is virtually driving me up the walls these days!Monday is usually my favourite TV day as I am hooked to all the comedies on ZEe english and Star World and yesterday my patience was really tested to the limit and I wanted to scream and snatch away the remote from my chachi! Anyway its a matter of another week , else I wonder how could I overcome this sheer torture!
