Why did the director/producer want to make such a loser of a movie. Aishwarya Rai is Diya, one rich daughter of a coffee plantation owner hung on getting married only after falling in love. Vivek Oberoi as Arjun another rich son of ______ (which the movie does not tell u) who wants to marry the girl chosen by his parents. Surprisingly Diya and Arjuns fathers are very close friends (Aha..which explains why they have never met before till its time for them to get married). Diya comes to Mumbai on some lame excuse of writing some exam, where she meets Arjun and falls in love with Arjun. (After approximately 4 songs, 1 bowling victory, one dance ball victory, several pranks by Arjun and one rainy night ofcourse !) Arjun is a hard numbskull who cannot decide if he is in love...Diya breaks her heart....Arjun goes back to win her heart. Enter Amitabh Bacchan... as some bloody rich uncle running an orphanage which looks more like a holiday home.
Actually the best joke in the movie was when some couple come to adopt from the brood raised by Amitabh. No child in his/her right mind would like to leave that place and go elsewhere but there is a huge smile on everybody’s face when one child paarth is chosen. Arjun even congratulates him on that gr8 achievement. What ensues is ofcourse true bollywood drama where the couple find out paarth is a langda and want to review their choice. Arjun our hero gives a gr8 speech on the issue which endears him to Amitabh...Gosh! that was bad
Amitabh then hatches a plan to unite the lovers (though Arjun is never sure)...enter Eshaan the long lost (to America on a job i.e.) orphan child raised by Amitabh...Some scenes that make Arjun jealous of Eshaan’s attachment with Diya ensue which are horrible to watch. Then comes the huge mysterious plot where Arjun (+the audience who smell it a few miles away) is duped into believing Eshaan is getting married to Diya.
Then the usual exit scence....long man-to-man talk with dad + follow ur heart speech. Arjun decides to crash Diya’s wedding with his proposal...(not before some crazy driving to reach her to justify he is a motorsport enthsiast as shown in the beginning of the movie) The rest u’ve already guessed...
By the way Arjun sports necklace in the movie which he hands over to Diya just before her exam as a lucky charm. But amazingly the necklace returns to Arjuns neck when they go to Arjun’s friend Vinay’s birthday party and manages to disappear during the song that Arjun sings for Diya in Vinay’s birthday !!
