Bass!!! Bahut Ho Gaya: HEARTLESS HARANGUE

HEARTLESS HARANGUE

It is only towards the end of the film that you realize that there is a story. And the story is even pleasantly reminiscent of the kind that films made by Hrishikesh Mukherjee had. But in Mukherjee?s films there was ample humor, some really touching moments and an impact that made you want to go back to them.

Debutant writer-director sameer karnik fails to give even five minutes in this hopeless harangue that you would like to store at the back of your mind and replay in a moment of solitude.

It?s all about a happy-go-lucky youth called Arjun (Vivek Oberoi) who is too footloose and fancy-free to get mushy or even nurse a crush. Love is a matter too ludicrous for him. And whom should he encounter but a dame Diya (Aishwarya) who is charming and sensitive and falls for the dude. The turning point is where the girl confesses her love and the guy is dumbfounded because he can neither say ?I LOVE YOU? nor ? I DON?T?.

The rest of the film is about how love awakens in the heart of the loveless, showing how sometimes people can become dear to us only when it is time to say goodbye.

For a sub-plot, there is Amitabh Bachchan whose presence makes no difference. In fact, it is the kind of role in which even Big B fails to charm.

The situations are imbecile and the attempts at comedy suck. For reason best known to the director there is even a bunch of kids thrown in to give the film a Mr. INDIA kind of look, or whatever, if you haven?t already walked out of the theatre, you wonder what exactly is the big idea. By the time it reaches its ?surprise? (sic) ending, you are too sick and tired even to be surprised.

Music directors Shanker ehsaan loy and lyricist Javed Akhtar have combined efforts to deliver their second turkey after LAKSHYA. The moot question: what about the chemistry between supposedly real life lovers Vivek Oberoi and Aishwarya? You?d better check it out in the gossip columns rather than waste your time watching this film.
